PBR, admire your tenacity, but give it up, man. The letter from the FREAKIN' FAA sez:

"There is no specific requirement that aircraft operating under 14 CFR part 121 be equipped with
headsets or that flight crewmembers use headsets produced under a TSOA."
And you know this is an authentic letter, how? We all know no one would ever post anything on the internet that may be false. Till I read that letter or one like it addressed to me, its like the rest of this thread. Words on a screen, I will keep my certificates in my pocket. I am amazed as to how gullible people on the internet are, just like whats his face "laughing the ops inspector out of his cockpit" If you really believe everything you read on the internet, I have a friend in Africa that can hack in to the student loan corp. and for 10K will erase all your student loans. Just send the cash in small bills to 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. Washington DC.

If one reads the "Whatley Letter" the last paragraph on the second page and top paragraph of the third page, clearly address the ANR headset and adapters issue quite clearly. uFlymike clearly does not meet regulatory requirements and quite possibly is specifically prohibited by this letter.

have't had any problems from the FAA (yet) with my headset, i use the Lightspeed Mach1, great peice of equpiment, very comfy, great sound, and the battery is only there for the plugins (mp3/cellphone) and to boost signal but it works just fine without the batt

Just curious...what are you gonna do if an FO shows up with the UFM (or any other Non-TSO'd headset) and thats all they have for a headset? Ear plugs and the hand mike??
He will be talking to the MOD.

Sennheiser ANRs fail without warning and have no warning system other than FAILURE; the QC2 is the only ANR headset I know of that gives a low battery warning. In order to restore audio in a Sennheiser, you have to realize you've lost audio. IF you realize it, you have to turn the power switch OFF to restore audio.

I don't mean to step into your personal pissing match, but you're incorrect. When the battery dies on my Sennheiser headset, I still hear ATC, I just lose the ANR. It works better if you flip the ANR switch off (otherwise there's just enough juice in the battery to make the ANR cycle on and off which is annoying) but in no way do I lose standard headset functions.

PBR - Read it again. That's not what it says.

Dave Greer, FAA attorney and author of the letter, says that's not what it says. Aircraft EQUIPPED with ANR headsets must not be the type that rely solely on battery power. He's not talking about SUPPLEMENTING the configuration of an aircraft with a personal headset.

The microphone in the UFlyMike works with a dead battery in the QC2 headset. Hell, it works even if it's not plugged into a headset at all.
