2 years at CAL this month. (2) 4 day SEA/ANC trips on the 757-300 and (1) 8 day 767-400 trip to the Pacific. 2 long layovers in HNL and 3 LOOOONG layovers in Guam with day turns to Tokyo. That's about 80 hours of flying(46 hours widebody). This was kind of a fluke for a junior IAH 757/767 guy though as other CAL guys will attest to. We had a bit of a PBS screw up here for November and they had to pay protect all the senior guys who didn't get the 8 day 767 trips that were awarded(out of seniority) to us junior guys. Normally, as a junior guy(in a senior base) I would have had 90 hours and 12 days off with mostly domestic layovers on the West Coast and EWR and or Florida cities(all 757-300 some 757-200 flying, a small amount of 767-200).

Hope that helps!!

Hi Guys,

Just got the call this week, and will start class early next month. Trying to get as much info ahead of my class date so I can make an informed decision on domicile and equipment bid.

My home is the Dallas area, but based with my current airline on the west coast. Any advice on the type of flying in both IAH and EWR would be appreciated. I understand CLE is all 737 and pretty senior, so I'm not really even considering that right now.

If I had my wish, I'd do mostly international flying since most of my experience up to this point has been domestic and Canada. But commuting all the way to EWR from the west coast (gotta save up money to move) doesn't sound too appealing either! :-)

Thanks for any advice from folks who have "been there, done that."

Congratulations!

If you want to fly over water type international ops, EWR 756 is really the only place to do it if you're junior. It takes quite a bit of seniority to fly that kind of stuff on the 767 & 777 out of IAH.

If you want to fly Latin America international ops, you can do that as a fairly junior 737 lineholder in IAH

EWR 756 is probably for you. move back to Dallas. lots of flights DFW-EWR on CAL and AA. commutable trips on EWR 756. not commutable EWR 737.

IAH 737 is commutable with some Central/South America int'l ops. DFW-IAH commute is a pain lately with mid-day RJ's. but drivable if necessary.

either way your commuter strength will be tested. it's a good job. you'll enjoy it - once you've made it to work.

IAHERJ:

Thanks for the detailed posting on your schedule. I never knew that the 75/6 flew HNL-GUM-NRT! I always thought that GUM was strictly 737 and that the only other flying that touched NRT was the 777 out of the other bases. Cool stuff. Does the 75/6 go to any other cities out of GUM?

I am in a class that starts in a couple of weeks, and I am really hoping to get the 75/6 out of EWR. As I am local to EWR, so that would be awesome. I've heard that the airplane tends to go junior because of the associated reserve and whatnot, so hopefully that trend keeps up for me. :o)

NRT and NGO have historically had larger equipment on it. Back years ago it was the DC-10 to NRT, NGO, CTS, SEL and DPS. In the summers of '93 '94, the 747 flew from HNL-GUM and then to NRT.

Now I guess the 76 does turns to NRT and a few others. I have been trying to get hired by CAL since I was an FA for CAL in 1992.

good luck

Well, looking at the equipment you've flown I'm not sure why you haven't been called in yet. Good luck. I hope you get a call.

thanks, i have wondered since hiring began. Alot of good people have been hired though. My time will come soon enough. I have all the recs. been to the job fairs. some of my recs are retired and haven't been in the offices to check up on things. I have one bro in training now that is gonna push things if he can.

I didn't know CAL pilots even had any days off over there:-) LOL

Why is it that everytime CAL is mentioned this stupid C*NT is always around to talk trash. Geesh. Just kill yourself already.

Seniority is the key, Junior you will get 12 days off for awhile....I am in the top third and get 19 days off in the 737 right seat. (2.5 years with Co.)

"Seniority is the key......."
Are you serious? Similar to "Well Brent Musburger, it looks like they are going to have to put more points on the board in order to pull off the victory since they are losing....."

Because she was one of the only females to ever get turned down at CAL. When you think about it, every post is funny because it is a glimpse into her continued bitterness over the rejection.

She is to ignorant to realize her own writings pre and post interview/rejection show it so clearly.

Is this really the most important thing you have to think about this weekend?

Congratulations, BTW.

Indeed it is funny and overall extremely pathetic. It's also obvious that not only did she NOT get the job with her "dream" airliner, but she also doesnt have a Ding-Dong to keep her busy. I guess her batteries went out. Very sad.
