Sorry I couldn't get that last comment. My boat was sailing under a bridge and I lost satetlite. I am stll logging my night/instrument, in hopes of joining a major some day. Hopefully one that has given everything away and can only go up from there.

There is enough water in West Texas to sail a boat? What you need to do is fly to Venice, Italy (on us no less) or Nice, France and see some really big boats--the ones airline CEOs have. Have fun in ELP.

General,

You really need to digest Dash Power's explanation of the hedges. Its not about making money on them. Its about making their fuel bill more of a fixed cost.

I understand that. It is still a windfall if you have them and others do not.

You say there would not be a profit but a loss without them. You point something like that out regularly. Do you think they do this as an investment or as part of their business plan.

General,

Why do you have to be like that? You are a little man. Do you really think we have to fly to Venice (Italy that is) to be happy employees or to enjoy our flying jobs? You need to get over yourself. I feel sorry for you if you are that shallow. I'm very happy with the track record and employee relations at my company. I don't need Paris. I've got Herb and his legacy.

Ciao jerk,

You don't say that though. You say that SWA would not have been profitable without the hedges.

If you understand the point with hedges then answer this...if oil was trading for $50 dollars a barrel then would SWA have made a profit?

General...

Dude, if you read our 10Q we are hedged as well. Every finance outfit uses fixed income vehicles (hedges being one of them) to deal with variable consumables like oil and distillates.

Did some SWA dude sleep with your wife or something? We are TOTALLY different airlines, and I would argue we are both the best at what we do (right now).

SWA boys: good to see the profit swinging back to where you guys usually are. Good on ya....keep on keepin' on and good luck with the intl bit.

Why do all these threads have to turn into a contest based on bashing a fellow Flight Info member?

Route announcements are news and I'm interested to see who is flying where.... Individual FI members are not really news.

It would be better news if DAL was stretching their legs to more Pac Rim destinations. There are a lot of business ties between the US and the Philippines, Taiwan, etc....

Who cares what GL says? I find most of his posts relatively on target if you exclude his bombastic delivery. You guys who goad him along deserve his comments. What do you expect - he's been doing this for years. When will you learn?

If you want uniform responses to every thread, don't come to FI. We have plenty of "characters" on this website and they both inform and sometimes entertain us. Don't take the bait unless you can handle his responses - it's that easy...

Why do I do it you ask? Because of your reactions. I love it. It takes sooo little to get you guys all riled up. All I did was put something about "West Texas" in the title of the thread, and nothing else in my initial post. What happened next? A FIRESTORM. Hillarious. By the way, we will allow jumpseats to Lihue and Kona for you corndogs. Welcome onboard---Aloha and Mahalo. I am glad you have Herb and his legacy. I have a great first class meal, followed by a 3 hour nap or a recent first run movie, and then a sunrise landing to a wonderful hotel, followed by a little nap, a run or a little weights, and then a great meal with beer while watching Euro babes. Ciao indeed.

I am sure Southwest would have been profitable regardless. Were they not profitable when oil was that low? We all were, excpet we at Delta and other legacies were making a TON more money. Your fixed costs were less back then too, and ours were sky high. After BKs etc, we are back down to a level playing field, but your actual fixed costs are going up, and without those hedges, it would be tougher for you to post that profit. With domestic fares going flat, and your fixed costs rising, guess what you are doing now that you have NOT done in the past? Raising FARES. Thanks. That helps us all.

Dude, who are you again? Nevermind, I don't really care. You are named after a nice airport though. Wow, that is fantastic.

We don't have enough planes to do that, yet. If we bought Hawaiian Air, then maybe.

Lets us not forget, the title of this thread was a jab at SWA. It was not simply a aviation headline, it was a member of this board trying to stir up crap. This is not a debate as it could be this is an insult. It is passive aggressive. He calls attention to himself and then cries foul like he is the victim. You get what you ask for General. If you want to be treated with respect be respectful. If you want to be treated in a way that you dislike continue on with antagonizing other members.

Simple enough can you do it?

Look pal, plenty of people took pot shots at us during BK, and I allowed the flak. Why can't you? Reading that title of the thread, doesn't that make you laugh just a little? It made me laugh, and so did the responses. Cool down my baby, and enjoy AMA. I am not on here to earn your respect, I am on here because I learn some things, post some things, and overall I enjoy it. I don't turn off the computer at night with tears in my eyes. (well, not that often) Night night.
