Actually - yes dead people have recieved retro pay under collective bargaining agreements - just google the topic. The dead person earned it and now their spouse, or estate under law has the rights to that property. There is no legal or industry precedent for the "dead" to receive retro pay.
The whole idea of retroactive pay is based on the idea of reimbursing pay for work already completed after the amenable date of a collective bargaining agreement under the terms & date of the new contract's implementation.
You know more about ALPA's past practice than I do, and as I understand it, this is not "retro pay," but rather a "signing bonus." As such it would seem you would have to be a signatory to recieve the bonus.
But, aren't all signatures equal?
It would appear you could have it one of two ways:
- If this is a signing bonus, everyone who signs should recieve the bonus (equally).
- If this is a form of retro pay, those who earned it should get paid.
Love the joke about the $20. I'm just playing anyway and am dammed pleased that the ASA pilots have something to consider and either vote for, or reject.
