Nonetheless, the point remains the same. We need it here at Colgan. We do not have a contract, work rules that are consistent and a company that treats us like professionals. There are plenty of professionals here and with our pilots' input and involvement we can have a very strong and professional union. VOTE YES!!!

That is the whole reason to vote no at Colgan, we have none of the above, just like every union I have seen and dealt with.

Really. So you are saying we don't have any smart pilots at Colgan.

What are you doing here then??

Brae123, first off, which union carrier have you worked for answer that question first. Professionals display integrity, which means they do not lie to support a weak argument. You most likely are like the rest of us, first and only airline you have ever worked for. So if your going to say no to ALPA at least make an argument that can’t be squashed by a gnat.
VOTE YES 31 JUL-21 AUG 07

Something to keep in mind fellow Colgan pilots, everything I get to talk to a former Chicago Express (Saab340, small airline like ourselves) they say how they voted down ALPA. Yet, they seem to be very excited about this drive at COLGAN. I can't help to wonder why, maybe they see something different here?

Because it is needed and wanted here...badly. There is a very good group on the Organizing Committee here. LET'S MAKE IT BETTER!!! Vote YES 7/31-8/21

If your the example of professionalism at Colgan then you are right, we are screwed.

Nice answer. You should take up politics. Didn't address the questions at all, just flinged mud.

You fit the profile of management plant or spy. I hope you really like working for Colgan!

The flight attendant union doesn't have to pay dues until they get a contract. Why can't we do the same. What makes ALPA the best choice for us? Are we just jumping on the bandwagon. Can our contract state that all flight attendants the APLA pilots fly with have to be straight, large boobies, and an hour glass figure. If it can't then I continue to say NO TO ALPA, we should have looked at other unions as well ! ! ! ALPA IS NOT GOOD FOR COLGAN.

Play,

Read Mike's memo about ALPA dues, the first contract would most likely have a clause saying you must pay dues, until then you DON'T HAVE TO JOIN!!! Granted, you won't have any union protection till that point, but if you don't want to join right away then don't!!! People did look into other unions BTW, if you think ALPA is not good for Colgan, hopefully that is based on info other then what you just said because it's not correct.

Maybe you should go work at Hooters air if thats all you want out of a job....lol

Go back to being a flight instructor and when you grow up call us. I sure don't want to fly with you!!!!!!!!!

People on this site are amazing. So smart and educated. Its fun posting something and see how a small group of people attack it. Everyone seems to think they know everything. These forums about Colgan and ALPA go around in circles until someone starts a new one. ATTACK THAT

You are exactly right, but it is important to get the messages and the arguements for and against out there. This is a big deal and merits discussion.

Hello,
In reviewing the information contained on both www.colgancares.com and colganpilotgroup.com I find myself pondering a couple of facts. First, why does the Colganpilotgroup site link to a couple of sites that have information on an alternate union? OK, these guys have an axe to grind against becoming members of ALPA, but ultimately this IS a managment ploy to dilute the vote to make NO union is on the property, including the APA which represents American Airlines.
I also take issue with managment's tactic of using disinformation and half-truths to push their own non-union agenda. Two points I'd like to raise; Mike Colgan say's that some of the best paid pilots don't have ALPA. Examples he cited are AA, AirTran, UPS among others. Well, guess what ALL are unionized!!! Second, the latest letter cites joining the union or not joining the union after the vote. Virginia is a right to work state, however, what Mike doesn't tell you is that ALPA will represent a pilot whether or not he individually joins the union or not. And, the reason that dues are required from all pilots is because we ALL enjoy the benefits of the contract.
Ultimately, the talk from Management is nothing short of scare tactics to maintain the status qou here at CJC. Personally, I think that the status qou sucks, and regardless of the quality of your work, dedication or professionalism. This simple fact remains, "meat in the seat" at the cheapest price and to go along quietly. Unfortunately, many fine individuals are going to vote with their feet as the industry begins to go to the well of highly-qualified pilots.
The current climate within the regional industry is a recipe for economic disaster. As the legacies begin to hire the most qualified individuals out of the the left-seat. Who is going to replace them in the short-term? If I was an airline manager in a regional I'd be damned worried! If I was a pilot I'd be worried about this phrase, FOREIGN EQUITY OWNERSHIP. We face an era of more and goods and services within the United States being produced offshore. It is only a matter of time before Cabotage becomes a reality in the USA. Worse than that, we could easily see foreign nationals in OUR cockpits flying our airplanes. "Because American's won't do this kind of work". Best of luck to you all, get the relevant facts, don't make an emotional decision.

From BBC:

The Flybe Bombardier Q400 had 36 people on board when crew members were forced to shut down one of its two turboprop engines on Monday morning.

Here we go!!!!!!

ATTACK WHAT?

I agree 100%. Management wants to disrupt this vote in any way possible.

"Oh, vote down alpa now and then sit on it for a year to see what happens."

They don't mention that this will give uncle phil a chance to whipsaw while he continually stalls Pinnacle contract negotiations and REFUSES to discuss contractually keeping the jets with PCL and the props with CJC.

If you can't see what's happening then I don't know how you manage to tie your shoes in the morning.

My position on the union has changed. From being for it to against it. I don't plan on being here at colgan for my then a couple more years like most of us. Hell if Alpa is unable to negotiate a contract with pinnacle mgmt then how are they going to get us a contract. It would be one thing if it was the old family owned colgan air. but its not, it is pinnacle the same company that has denied a new contract for over two years. So it boils down to this, who wants to pay 2% for then next few years for no improvement. By the time colgan gets a contract we will be gone, so let the future colgan pilots go through the same crap they we go through now both good and bad. All the regionals suck and are under paid. Wages will increase with demand, just like anything else. With fewer pilots and an increasing demand we will have a choice, its a fact. So I say no to the union and will not be voting next month.

perhaps you should step outside your all knowing self, grasshopper, and look at what you just wrote. might it be an attitude such as this that allows such payscales, and qol for regional pilots? ask yourself this genious... was it really worth the ten bucks you made in flight pay for picking your way through that area of level five's? did you take your chick out in your bmw for a $500 date on payday? did you get to go sightseeing and enjoy your last 20hr overnight? its time to man up, junior...its time to put the wheel in motion to make this a tolerable industry. alpa is but a step in the right direction. we need to become a strong pilot group as well.
