Good thing you decided not to go to medical school. You definitely couldn't hack a hard schedule.

The point is that Doctors generally live less than the "average" person in the U.S. due to the lifestyle. (Night Cargo pilots as well.)

I have been doing red eye's the last 5 months and I can definately say that it takes my days off to fully recover. I bid them to commute and cannot do it anymore. No job is more important than your health.

Thanks 120, where are u at now?

GR82aviate, its actually for good, SkyWest allows no leave of absences after your 84 days of FMLA are up, I have had my share of "fun" 8 years is enough, though I have to admit if I was not a commuter it would be more fun, but its just way to much time away from the family for me, I wish I knew I would have felt this way 20 yrs ago, I guess I am lucky I met the girl I did. I do have SkyWest to thank though, I actually met her on a long MEM saturday overnight.

Q400, what is it about MILF's? they rock!

UEJ500, even regular day pilots live alot less then regular people,

heck I forgot to mention in my original post the diet factor, I mean its pretty hard to eat healthy, and exercise regularly, hotel gyms are ok but when your overnight dwindles to 8hrs its not what you want to lose sleep for.

I know it sounds like im just bitc-ing but I am just pointing out the facts, too many people overlook all the sacrifices they and their families endure so they can do this.

Totally agree with you! This "career" sure isn't what it used to be... I'm really hoping the tide turns back in our favor someday(soon I hope).
Best of luck to ya!!!!

why do alot of pilots think they were smart enough to go through med school, just because they cruched their way through a few type rides.

Med school is harder than memorizing a few memory items and botching your way through some v1 cuts.

ya know its funny, there is a huge pilot shortage right now, but it doesnt seem to matter, management is holding their ground,

heck they are only sweetening the deal for new hires with bonuses, we seniors are gettin left in the cold, how do we play this shortage to get back what we have lost?

I am leaving 8 years at SkyWest to be a stay at home dad, and thank god, it will be saving my health (among other things)

You think a stay at home dad is easy????? How many kids and how old are they!!

I certainly don't think so. I chose flying because I wasn't smart enough to do anything else.

goo-I was being sarcastic...not trying to put you down....sorry if it came across wrong. Regional schedules will eventually kick your ass...unless you are senior and have line bidding. THrow in a commute and you won't have to worry about age 65.

Future contract language to get: Any bonus paid to any pilot must be paid to all pilots employed at the time. This way if new hires get $5K, we ALL get $5K.
