For those that are too lazy:

To be considered for the pilot position at United Airlines, you must possess the following minimum qualifications at the time of application. Those who do not meet the minimum qualifications will not be considered as applicants by United Airlines:
  • 1500 hours Total Time - Fixed Wing.
  • 1000 hours Multi-engine time (PIC) or Military fighter/trainer (PIC).
  • 500 hours Turbine Time.
  • 100 hours flown in the past year (Recency of experience).
  • Current FCC license.
  • Current valid passport.
  • Current First Class Medical.
  • Current ATP Certificate with Multi-engine land rating (AMEL).
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Legal right to work in the United States without sponsorship.
  • A college degree from an accredited school is preferred.
Please note that PIC is defined as Captain/Aircraft Commander of record, not simply the sole manipulator of the controls. United only considers pilot time in fixed wing aircraft toward minimum qualifications.
United is preparing to commence pilot hiring later this year. If you are interested in becoming a United pilot, please continue to check this page for more information.

Interesting requirements, vis-a-vis the CAL and DAL minimums, as well as UA's old minimums.

Wow, those are some very high minimums. Does anyone have higher minimums? I have to admit I am pretty surprised! The last time United was hiring, the minimums were much lower. I guess supply was much tighter back then. I wonder if they will be able to tap the number and quality of applicants they are hoping for. I guess Delta has lower minimums, but they have been filling classes with pretty highly experienced people. I guess we'll see in a few weeks when the process kicks into gear.

It seems pretty typical to me. The mins are pretty reasonable(to lowish) as I see it but they've thrown in a monkey wrench: 1000 Multi PIC. Very few people with 1500 TT are going to have 1000 of that as listed PIC in a multi. So it's sort of self-regulating.

It's like those overseas contracts: 1000 TT with 500 in 747(or A320, etc). that just doesn't occur in nature over here very much.

Yeah, those are high minimums, at least compared to others (CAL and Delta anyway) . Not the total time as much as the 1000 PIC-multiengine and ATP rating. Not many people are able to meet the 1000PIC-ME requirement with 1500 hours total.

Those numbers don't mean squat. To be competitive for an interview, you're going to have to have a lot more than that.

I am suprised too! I figured they would require 1000 ME(Turbine) PIC instead of just ME pic. I think these minns are really low. United will have no problem finding quality people with these numbers.

If you are a minority or chick, then these mins don't apply! This is for white males only, good luck.

UAL mins are also variable considering who the applicant's daddy is.

I love those sons and daughters of such and such. I especially like it when they tell me bragging about it like I care.

So does this mean that the sons and daughters programs is back in?

No wonder why you're still in that RJ....it's someone elses fault

or active OBAP member.

Really? That's funny. Been an OBAP member since I was in High School, worked on the ramp for UAL during the one summer I took off during college, damn near graduated with a degree in Aeronautical Science with a 4.0 (finished with a 3.8), flew for the commuter airlines for over 5 years, upgraded to Capt not long after my 23rd B-day, and had a clean record and got the interview when I had about 5000 hours. Other friends I have from OBAP had more than that or spent many years in the military. As a matter of fact the 5 guys with the lowest time in my class were all white males, the lowest one having 1900 hours at the time....not that it matters to me but it obviously matters to your dumb a**. The BS is that a DA like yourself would never know what it actually took to get there cause you already got a BS misconception in your head.

If you have to blame OBAP for your inability to get a job I feel sorry for you. Look at your own merits or lack thereof....you'll find what's holding you back.

I think it's just fun being poked at the fact -yes,fact- that UAL was rather well known for its, um, affirmative action practices once upon a time.

Don't take it so personally. Why didn't you get offended at the 36-24-36 comment? You must have huge boobs.

It's also a fact that once upon a time UAL not only hired folks with 0 hours but also paid for commercial tickets and other ratings. One fact, yes fact, was that you couldn't be anything other than white and a male. I had mentors that were Tuskegee Airman that have flown in wars that wouldn't get the time of day by UAL at that point in time. So, everyone here wants to talk sh** about affirmative action at UAL while ignoring the reason it got to that point in the first place. Keep blaming, poking fun, or whatever you want to call it, about OBAP. Hopefully it'll make some of you feel better about yourselves.

The question still remains: Why didn't you take offense at the previous "minority" ribbing? Since we're all jumping to conclusions now can I take it that you're black and hate women?

I'm white and hate neither. A joke is a joke. This one happens to find it's roots in a kernel of truth. All in good fun..... deep breaths.

I can take a joke better than most but that's not a Fn joke to me. And you don't know that I didn't take offense to the other comment. If I wrote a response to all the dumb sh*t I see on this board I wouldn't have time to do anything else. I obviously replied to the comment about OBAP because, like I said, I've been a member since I was in HS and could speak first hand about the BS that some of you are talking about.

So where are we? You and others want to blame someone else for your lack of movement. Well, just others since making a blanket statement that folks from other groups got their job just because they were in another group is hilarious to you. So I can continue on the subject and you can continue to deflect the point I was trying to make by wondering why I didn't speak specifically to another post. Try going back to my first reply and reading the title. It ended with "it's someone else's fault". Not OBAP specifically. Someone else's meaning someone that can be categorized in some other group than yours.

It has not been my experience that minority hires which includes female pilots, are not as qualified as the previous poster.

Minority hires are hired because of their minority status not their qualifications.

Minorities are hired to met quotas. That is why recruitment events occur at Woman in Aviation Seminars and the like.

1. it was a joke, meant as a joke, therefore a joke to everyone. You could not take it.

2. You are mistaking me for someone else, I never said that anyone was holding me back(and really, neither did anyone else, that was your perception).

3. What?

The next company video you receive, the next company brochure you see, the next issue of the in-flight magazine look at who is pictured representing the pilot group.

I am sure the pilots represented in any company publication shown is a minority or a woman pilot.

You will not find a young white male pictured in a company publication guaranteed.

I put a title to my post but titles don't show up on this board I guess. My reply to Dirty Sanchez was titled "so that's the reason your still in that rj...it's someone else's fault". That's what I was referring to.
