Interviewed on the 14th and didn't get on - made it through the first day though. I think I may not have convinced them Alaska was my dream job. Especially the Captain on the 2nd day gave me the 3rd degree. I also don't think they liked I didn't have any letters from Alaska guys. I was set up a bit by them though since they gave me 3 days to get my stuff together.
Anyway, hopefully it will all work out for them and me.

Geeitup - Sorry to hear it. Alaska does want to hear that they are the ONLY airline you want to work for, anything less will bounce you. In the recent past, the 2nd day interview was all about shaking you up on your day one answers and verifying that you are only wanting to work for Alaska. Lame in my opinion but if you want the job you have to play the game.

Good luck on future interviews Geeitup....Baja.

My friend was just hired and only interviewed on one day. Is that a fluke or because he was QX or has the process changed?

AS guys:

Anybody know what's going on with QX pilots? Haven't heard any of us QX capt's (other than above) being called for interviews lately. Also haven't heard of any FO's that have been called. What's the word for both Capt/FO's trying to get on?

They might be thinking it doesn't make sense to call up a QX guy and hire him only to throw him in training for the summer when he could be flying for QX. Just my two cents. How short is QX on pilots currently?

Way short on Q200 guys and way fat on Q400. Go figure.

I'm guessing that he had his submissive behavior down pat.

I interviewed on the 14th as well, but no go. My heart wasn't really into it anyways as I had another offer already. Even though I tried my best to hide that, they got it out of me somehow I guess. The whole interview was psycological, trying to get into your head and see where your loyalty lies. (not to mention I think I was the only one there that wasn't REALLY from Seattle).

got the offer of late august class date last week. anyone know any good crash pads since they dont pay for hotel in training?

Get used to the nickel and dimeing. Also, bring $36 bucks...that's what they charge you for your wings. I'd give you mine but they're somewhere in the landfill.

go to apartments.com or whatever your favorite one is. Apartments are fairly cheap (I guess it depends what you are use to) and I found some that would even do 4 month leases. When I got hired we were all told we were going to the MD80 so it took the mystery out of where we were going to be based. Made finding an apartment a lot easier.

Good luck

anyone know how the schedules are in ANC? I heard people hold lines fairly quickly there and the HR peeps said ANC was expanding. anyone holding 17 or 18 days off in ANC?

and also do ANC pilots ever see the continental US or do they just fly all over Alaska (and Hawaii in the fall)?

Since the 200 went away, ANC is going junior. Even more so than LAX I think. ANC does all of the arctic, S/E Alaska and ORD. With the next bid it is expanding by 20 something lines 1/1/08. Any ANC pilots confirm this.

All in the timing. I got to ANC in late JAN, and sat number last until this month. If I was staying in ANC (I'm not) come this Jan. I'd be in the middle of about 90 folks.

Never had a line or Open flying line, but it looks like that would change if I stayed.

ANC flying covers the State, some SE Alaska flying, and redeyes to SFO, DEN, ORD, PDX. I have been to King Salmon about 12 times this month.

Of course, in OCT the game changes as ANC is the ETOPS base for AS and the Hawaii flying will be done by ANC crews.

Days off? The good lines are in the 16-17 day off range, and maybe an open flying line will have 16. RSV lines 11 off.

Hope that is what you were looking for.

also I am trying to find out about crashpads in sea and anc, anyone know if they are plentiful?

ps thanks for the info, helps a lot

Lots of Pads in ANC available. PM me, I can get you info. Between FDX, UPS, NW, AS there are A LOT of commuters up here.

You might stay at the Quality INN which is right next door to Training and ALPA Offices. Costs about $45 a night with cont. breakfast and 10th night free.
This way you can see who's going where and find maybe some folks to crash with at any of the bases.

I had a buddy do this and ended staying through all of training at the hotel.

good idea

I would agree that the Quality Inn is the way to go during your initial training week(s). Once you get to know the others in your class and what their situation is, you may find a crash-pad roommate, etc.

And yes, ANC is junior and will increase it's flying between now and Jan 1st, 2008. There will be zero new hires on the 737 in Seattle for the foreseable future. 22 Capts/19 First Officers reduced off the MD in Seattle, and 26 Capt/10 First Officer positions are being added on our current positon bid. So, a few junior pilots currently in Seattle, may find themselves commuting to LAX or ANC.

If things keep going (or not going) the way they are I think there is going to come a time when everyone qualified to fly the 737 is going to have a line - and all the MD80 guys are going to be sitting at home waiting for a class date.

I doubt anyone will be actually bumped out of Seattle. Once that happens it's going to cost the company money and you would think they would want to avoid that. There are 26 Captain positions in Seattle and 52 open system wide which should cause enough FO slots to be opened up to minimize the chances of anyone getting bumped.

Most likely ANC

Nearly all newhire will be ANC bound, with a few here and there going to LAX. Getting SEA off the bat will be very rare, if it happens at all for awhile.

ANC is expanding, while SEA is shrinking (slightly) with the MD retirements.

Where are most of the new hires going for the rest of the year?

Anyone with a definite answer?

What I didn't copy/paste are the four retirements and the MD reductions in SEA (22 Capts/19 F/Os). These MD pilots will most likely take all the new positions available in Seattle, leaving little or no room for new hires to get into Seattle this bid. There would have to be six MD pilots to bid out of Seattle, maybe picking up captain in LAX or ANC for there to be one new hire in Seattle. Then again, there may be a handful of Seattle 737 F/Os that bid captain in LAX or ANC. This may add a few new hire slots... Nobody will know the definitive answer until bids are awarded Friday, Aug 10th. So, if I were a new hire wondering where I'd be starting, I'd buy myself a warm hat and some gloves and learn to love the land of the midnight sun (and the sixth month winters). But hey, at least you'll be able to see Hawaii for a few hours and then fly the all-nighter back again!

I interviewed at AS a few years ago now and from what I was reading on the first page, it sounds exactly like my experience. They at one point asked me what my second choice airline would be if I wee not hired at AS and I (DUH!!) said ..... United. All there heads went down at once and they furiously wrote stuff on their legal pads hahaha! Also, check this out, one Captain said; " Son, you give me hope for my son being a pilot someday." I said Oh, how is that sir? and he said ( looking at my HS and college transcripts) " Well, anyone who has gotten these horrible math grades and made it this far in aviation gives me hope for my son". HAHAHAHA! anyhow - best of luck! ( the sim ride is pretty fun!)
