Very sad.....

hope no SKYW spikey hair, sunglasses resting on their forehead wonderpilots start making mistakes.

13 months, shoot, some of them'll probably upgrade without having ever de-iced. yay.


very sad.....resting sunglasses on ones head is much better than wearing them in your pocket, around your neck like a woman, or squinting around getting wrinkles all day.
 
Just because the person has been with Skywest for 13 months doesn't mean that they aren't more experienced than you are assuming. Remember minimum time to upgrade is 2500hrs. There were several guys from Eagle in my class, one with 6 years over there. This was typical of the experience level in my class with the exception of a few CFI types, and they would not upgrade in a year.

What makes you think Skywest has pilots that are "more experienced" than any other regional? 13 months is 13 months and there will be some idiots that do it with the minimum times. Just hope you aren't deadheading when things go wrong.
 
Exactly.....I know of many people who came here after 4 or more years at other regionals........they are able to upgrade in 8 months or 13 months because they have 4000 other 121 hours.....
Yeah you tell 'em. If SkyWest management gets their way 20+ year employees at ASA will be given the opportunity to interview, when our airplanes are transferred, IF SkyWest is hiring, at the bottom of your list. Heck, some of these guys have more than 10,000 hours in the same exact airplanes.

Don't kid yourselves that this is due to SkyWest's incredible product and management team. You are getting the opportunity becaues airplanes operated by your subsidiary were taken, or firm orders belonging to your subsidiary were taken, because your pilot group will fly these jets for less and not ask for more. With these upgrades comes a displacement, or a pilot like me who realizes he must find another job because the company he invested his time in building is now being systematically dismantled and the jobs transferred to new hires at SkyWest.

Your upgrades are the same as the Continental upgrades that came on Eastern's equipment under Frank Lorenzo.

I don't blame any of you individually for taking the opportunity. But you need to at some point consider the effect SkyWest's war on pilots has on the profession.

What SkyWest is doing is going after longevity. This is not about $1.50 an hour in pay, it is about a 10 year Captain's pay v/s pay for a 2 year Captain. That means with this model we are all going to work in a 5 year cycle (as explained to us by ASA management and Mr. Atkin). Most of us have no desire to start over every 5 to 10 years and will leave the "profession" before taking the responsibilities of Captain to the employment cycle of a waitress.

When you have around eight years in and finally reach a point in your career when you start to enjoy the fruit of your labor I guarantee your airline will have some sort of alter ego new hire scheme to replace you. You probably figure you will be at a major by then (and some of you will). If you look at the statistics, most of you will not. Delta Connection Carriers are advertising nearly 2,000 vacancies in 2007. Delta mainline is advertising 200. You do the math and consider the profession that is beig undermined is the profession you will be in five years from now. American, US Air and United still have 3,000 plus pilots on furlough.

Let me add to that, that y'all at Skywest WILL get your turn in the mill. Enjoy your 1 year upgrades, because by the time you hit 10 years, Skywest will have found a way to replace you, just as they have with us.

Fins speaks the truth in that we at ASA have been told many, many times that our seniority is a problem. They don't want anyone over 5 years hanging out because we become too costly to do the same job as a 2 year pilot. They WILL buy or create an alter ego, and you being without a contract have no defense. Long after ASA is gone, y'all will live our fate and see your jobs transferred to a different carrier where you MAY be allowed to interview for your job and start over.

But until then, enjoy your upgrade. I hope the majors are still hiring by the time you get your 1000 PIC. If not, try to learn from history instead of repeating it.
 
Didn't the Captain have somewhere around 7000 hours? If so, would he have avoided this accident with another 1000 - 2000+ hours? Probably not, he was 30+ years old and this speaks more of his personality than experience.

STFU. Nobody said he was 23yrs. As mentioned before this guy has 737 and DHC-8 exp. The haters are out in full force.
