PCL off the Runway in TVC--no injuries

Braking action was reported good last night in TVC at the time of the incident with MU readings of 40 all the way down the runway.

MEMPHIS, TN, Apr 12, 2007 (MARKET WIRE via COMTEX News Network) -- Pinnacle Airlines (NASDAQ: PNCL) flight 4712 operating between Minneapolis - St. Paul and Traverse City, Michigan has been involved in an incident at Traverse City. Flight 4712 departed Minneapolis at 9:44 p.m. and landed in Traverse City at 12:43 a.m. The aircraft, a Canadair Regional Jet, was carrying a crew of 3 and 46 customers. Upon landing, the aircraft received no braking action and came to a stop off the end of the runway. There are no injuries reported to passengers or crew.

2. Joe Merchant sez: Probable cause = lack of Brand Scope. (he's suing!)
3. If they put that RJ on a treadmill...
4. We now know the advantages of rear-mounted engines!
5. Didja hear what Imus called the F/O?
6. [insert jetBlue cabin-cleaning quip here]!!
7. Age 65 will eliminate this sort of thing, according to kwick
8. Wait a couple of days and a NWA DC-9 will be right there with 'em! (Now that's Brand Scope!)

That's some very funny stuff.

Capt is a really good guy, good pilot and ALPA volunteer. He was doing OE with a new hire FO. Don't know anything about the FO. This guy is a very solid Capt with lots of time and perfect record. The only problem with the Capt is that he does thinks "brand-scope" is going to solve this problem.
 
I know both crewmembers personally. The CA is a great pilot and a great guy, and has helped lots of pilots through his involvment in ALPA. Neither one was from any sh!tty low time program. Hold off on all the quarterbacking, have a beer and be glad nothing like this has happened to you yet....Be safe.

Looks like they landed with a 5 knot or so tailwind at the time of arrival 0430z. I hope the Captain was flying and not the new fo.
 
Yeah, for one it most likely was the Captain flying especially with an OE fo and the weather like it was.

All you people who bash young pilots, grow up.

You know that if you were given the opportunity to be hired at an airline when you had 300, 500, 600 hours you WOULD have taken it. Don't be so modest and act like you would have turned it down. I'm tired of hearing about this low time fo crap. Big stinkin deal. I seem to remember many old guys augering big airplanes in, including a chief pilot at American. The point is, it doesn't matter who's flying the airplane, stuff can happen. It's terrible that guys lose their lives out there, but it happens, REGARDLESS of age and experience.

No he sounds like a whiney spoiled brat that came from money, and is pissed at captains that aren't as worried about his feelings as mommy and daddy are.

believe me, captains are as tired of your crap attitude as you are of the low time pilot argument.

PFTers and ultra low time rich kids are annoyed when people talk about experience because its the one thing that they dont have, and its something that mom and dad cant cut a check for.

I agree that most of these guys who bash relatively low-time new hires would've jumped to the same chance if there were presented with it. It shows their intense dislike for someone who gets a shot at flying jets with 600 or so Total Hours of flight time simply because the opportunity did not exist at the time when they had relatively low time.

I would like just ONE of them to provide a solid proof that they applied for a jet position with those numbers, was offered a job, and then turned down the offer because of their conviction.

Most of those who put down low time new-hires are the ones who waited a very long time and many thousands of hours before getting a shot at the airline/jet flying.

I find it fascinating that when 'major' airline pilots makes mistakes, most of these guys come to their defence!

No he doesn't. He makes a legit point. If we want to compare arguements, you sound like someone who is jealous of those who may be more well off than you are.

As if anyone in this industry shows a stellar attitude. You need to learn to deal with it. Not everyone will have the same level of dedication to aviation as you will or do already. As a Captain, I feel your pain. But, I can't change anyone. In my position, I can only guide them. Maybe you should try the same instead of posting crap like this which makes you look like the one with the poor attitude.

What does money have to do with this? Family or personal weath has nothing to do with airlines hiring low time pilots. In fact, most of the GIA guys at PCL worked two or three jobs to get their time paid off. The rest (a good 30%) are ex mil pilots and enlisted. Let me tell you, less than 5% or so of your so called "PFT'ers" are "rich kids".

Get over it, and life will get easier for you.
 
The story isn't that an airplane went off the runway or Joe Notime was the pilot, but that it's April 12 and there was a snow storm in Michigan severe enough to ruin breaking action. Screw Michigan, I need to move to Florida.

There's some big news coming from NASA in a few weeks on this. NASA aeronautical/human factors scientists have determined that you must have flown exactly 1337 hours - no more, no less - before you can successfully and safely fly a regional jet.

Amazing.
