Was the captain a GIA wonder, or was the FO fresh out of JetU???

Actually, I was wondering why Bombardier makes such rotten landing gear that it keeps failing. ASA had one fail in ATL a few years back. Who needs trailing-link gear anyway.
 
It is not unusual for mainline to do stuff like this up there, but I don't remember everyone saying those pilots are idiots...

Bottom line is we don't know what happened, so take it easy.

The CA is a good pilot, and a good guy, flying with a VERY junior FO.

The Airlines have been pushing the FAA for decades not to give real guidance for braking action/landing requirements because it would result in more delays/CX. They are willing to deal with the fact that every once in a while one will go off. Even killing that little boy in MDW didn't get it done.

It did at ASA. We must calculate actual ldg dist for every landing based on the actual wx conditions at the time of landing. We also have to add some extra concrete to make sure we get it right. I believe several other carriers are also doing this.

I heard the FO was on OE fresh out of training...less than a thousand total
 
Sounds like a great outcome from a bean counter's perspective. Which is- "Any landing that gets the passengers in fewer than two pieces near the terminal is a good one."
 
Having had an interesting experience at TVC I'll tell yah that they aren't always accurate with the braking action reports even if you get one. Was reported as BA fair to poor and 50 feet wide plowed. Yah, it wasn't the center 50 feet plowed it was the 50 feet right of centerline so I had one main in the snow and one on plowed pavement and the nose gear back and forth through both. I called BA poor and the tower responded with "Roger, fair to poor." I said "NO! Just POOR!!" Yah, I'm "that guy" who closed the airport. So what? I was in a CRJ and it was tense. Had we not planted it right on the TDZ markers we might not have made it by the end of that 6,500ft.
 
Braking action was reported good last night in TVC at the time of the incident with MU readings of 40 all the way down the runway.
