Spare me the self-riteous rant about lacking of professional experience. I'll bet I was flying airplanes while you were still in diapers.

That said, I've aborted several times in Atlanta, also known as The World's Busiest Airport and never got questioned as to why. I told tower we were aborting and asked either to go back to the gate or taxi back for takeoff.

MS Flight sim doesn't count big guy. Time to put your TWA 777 trans con on pause I think your mom just called you for dinner.

Thanks Jack. I didin't have it in me to continue an argument with someone who can't even spell "righteous"...it would be like arguing with a can of tuna.

What if you are flying in a rocket ship (on a treadmill of course)!

Well, back when I was with NASA, our rockets actualy did produce a little lift, used for directional control though, not as a means of flight. Hence, the stabilizing fins. Now if I could only get that "Re-Entry Day VFR Only" limitation on my astronaust license removed fom my NCFI (NASA CFI).

***For the genius few who are about to type...I'm kidding****

I've been told that on a CRJ, AIL or RUD trim needs to to be set to neutral and not just in the green. It could move just enough to get a t/o config warning during the takeoff roll even though it was green when you started the takeoff roll. Anyone else heard this or experienced it?

2000 hrs in the jet and never worried about it being 'neutral'. Green=good and my issue only happened to me that one time.

They changed our POH about a year ago to say that it had to be in the neutral position. This was after getting aborts for trim warnings. If it is on the edge of green, the vibration on takeoff can trigger a warning.

Regardless of the emergency, it's always wise to avoid the practice of self incrimination. Just state you aborted give no reason!
John, I personally agree for the most part. IMO, it’s unwise to announce over tower freq the specific reason why you decided to abort a takeoff. Also, I’ve seen many pilots who see nothing wrong with announcing over the public airways the specific reason why they aborted. All that does is opens themselves up to scrutinization and self-incrimination. (This thread is a perfect example of these guys being scrutinized). Also, the media have been known to monitor the frequencies looking for a story to feature on the evening news and we all know how they always get $hit wrong and make us pilots look like idiots.
I agree with MJG also, the tower sometimes needs a reason so they can enter it in the tower log for their records. If they want “specifics”, I will use my cellphone and call them in the tower and tell them what happened. It’s not everybody else’s business.
For the most part, telling them you aborted for a warning light or something like that has most always worked for me. :D

Thanks. If they changed it at YV it may have been after I last flew the line there about 15 months ago.

This is why it takes everything I have to post on this site...dorks like this who start threads like this. I just have to laugh at you!

get a life loser!!!!

the last thing I want to do after a long day is hurry and run to my computer on some message board and and bash a "fellow pilot".... stuff happens and there is no shame in an abort due to takeoff config.... The pilot may or may not have made a mistake but he did the right thing by getting off the runway and having a look. God forbid in the heat of the moment this crew decided to say what actually happened when the tower asked. Regardless of who we work for we are all in this together... or at least we should be. When you come on a message board and slam another pilot you just make yourself look like an ass.. Well done!

Thank you. Somebody who is professional leaving a professional post. A breath of freash air!

If you weren't there you have no right to judge and if you decide to play armchair quarterback, when it happens to you ,just think of how many people will be looking at you like a "dumba$$". What goes around comes around. Stop acting like a fool and Maybe you will get some respect, keep this up and you make yourself look like an a$$.

Anyone know of anyone ever getting in trouble with the Feds due to a config warning abort? I've never heard of it.

I actually have. A crew went to takeoff with the trim out of the green arc. Aborted the T/O when the horn went off. They extended the flaps during the abort and when they cleared they reset the trim but not the flaps. Tried to T/O again, and again had to abort for the flap misconfig. Feds busted them on failing to follow checklist procedures.
