If I remember correctly - The reason we (MDA and Rep) couldn't/can't use the packs with the huffer was that the air isn't filtered (from the huffer) and would supply the packs with dirty, slightly oil tainted air - thus that dirty air get into the cabin - not good.

If the APU is deferred, we have to hand out cold soaked towels at the gate if the oputside air temp is above a certain temp. This is in the FOM. No kidding. It was not that way until the CEO was sitting in the back and sweating his balls off!

I have to say that it is nice that my new airline does not run that way. We will have ground power and air all day long.....
There are certain things that I will not miss. This is one of them.

Oh your so cool, and its not your job until you've passed training, but yes I wouldn't miss that either.

I commuted on delta for two years out of Salt Lake and I never sat on a cold or hot airplane with no air on it.

Hmm, how typically ASA -- instead of fixing the problem (maintaining the huffers,) we just come up with a knee-jerk blanket policy. Having said that, I can't tell you how many times rampers have looked at me like I was crazy for trying to suggest using a huffer for air-conditiong.

Change the culture. If they give you the power why give it back? Is there no confident crews at ASA? I worked there and considered many of the memos job security and creation. The reality is if you have confidence and can back up your decision making you are supported in your decisions. Perhaps it is a decision making problem at ASA. If you are beat down it is hard to still make good decisions.
