NEW YORK - JetBlue canceled 215 flights Friday because of a winter storm on the East Coast, aiming to avoid the days of cancellations and criticism that followed a storm last month, an airline spokesman said.

The cancellations affected about one-third of all JetBlue flights. More than 200 of them involved flights to or from New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport, said company spokesman Sebastian White.

Is this going to be a trend everytime there is a storm in the NY area?

Forget a trend. Is this going to be NEWS every time?! Who cares if a few flights get cancelled because of a storm? That happens all time with every other airline. This is not newsworthy, must be a slow day for news.

Let's see how many AA, Delta, LCC and CO cancel by days end. This isn't a new concept, to cancel flights preemptively. It's a product of having hubs. SWA isn't effected because of all of their point-to-point flying.

We are cancelling everything in. Not sure about other operators, but we here at AA are not allowed (no holdover charts) to operate with frezzing rain pellets and another form of precip. While BR MAY NOT beconsidered precip to some, and MAY for others. All it would take is a change to -SN and -FZRAPL and ay de-icing would need to be redone after the precip stopped. We had this at ORD a few weeks ago. In a nutshell the weather is horrible.

The real difference between AA and JB today. JB crews will be pay protected and we will not. We gotta get that changed this contract.

Regards,

AA
