It's no secret DAL is interested in the jetBlue terminal at JFK (sleeps 10,000!). That has fueled speculation that DAL would purchase all of jetBlue in order to acqure the terminal...then round-file the rest of the operation.

1. DAL has a history of purchasing big chunks of other airlines when they're really only after certain specific morsels. (Think PAA)

2. It's possible only if DAL finds another party in the deal to assume the remainder of jetBlue. Some other operator or investor might be interested, especially after the remaining assets were devalued by the removal of the terminal. (Another terminal and/or gate access at JFK would have to be part of the overall deal)

3. Ain't gonna happen in bankruptcy court because it's waaaay too public a forum. Best to do something after exiting Chapter 11.

4. A merger of pilot lists is unlikely because a merger of fleets is unlikely. If that were to happen...Allegeny-Mohawk is the precedent. It's possible DAL could be interested in those A320's if DAL were to suddenly start to operate another 164-ship fleet of Airbus aircraft. With cool, easy-to-spot-in-the-snow red tails!

5. Any integration of the lists would have to involve the cabin groomers at DAL too....since the pilots at jetBlue fit into both labor classifications. <--that's a joke, Chef!

I am loosely following this thread -- it's just hard to get past 8vATE's temper tantrum after only a couple of posts, so I barely caught my name in there. Don't worry Occam, you ain't saying anything untrue. Besides, you will soon have your hands full of jb captains and/or new hires ready to blovi8te about the airline industry.

Me? I am just patiently awaiting the FO bids (can you say 58 hours plus since they closed) and what is being billed by our leaders as the soon-to-be "St. Patrick's Day Massacre".

Caesar is dead, btw.

Yikes! Sounds uber-Fun! Good luck, and remember: As long as you don't have expectations...you won't be surprised.

Delta buying us for our terminal at JFK? Please give me a break!!! They gave up 16 gates in MCO, then are giving back a bunch of "new" gates at BOS and additionally, LAX just bought out the "bonds" to the terminal there because Delta flies too few flights for the 17 gates they have in LAX, paving the way for the airport to give some of them away. Come on, the new terminal 5 at JFK can only handle jets up to the size of 757/A321s-- can't see Delta utilizing them for anything but domestic... which isn't where their growth lies now...

Now there is actually something that makes sense. We just bought 13 757ER's which are going to be used for the NYC to England/Ireland routes. Which only require a two man crew because it's under 8 hours. If those gates can handle a 757 then something new has been added. I thought those gates could only handle the smaller airbi. Maybe our CFO isn't an idiot after all.

Well, I could be wrong, but I believe that Delta agreed to "lease" 10-13 757ERs from ILFC and did not buy anything. However, I would want the 'facts' to get in the way of anyone's rant.

Just my $0.02

"Survivor: the Crew Lounge"

Every merged seniority list has caused wailing and gnashing of teeth, so maybe it's time for a new approach --- a TOURNAMENT! Television rights could mean big bucks, even for the losers.
Now the only question is, what competitive events should be scheduled?
Suggestions? :uzi:

You might want to check your facts about that extension!

Almost as funny as cancelling flights 5 days later after an "ice storm meltdown."

It would actually be cheaper for DL to buy Jetblue and get the new terminal than rebuild their own terminal. Buying JB gives them the new terminal and orders for more E190s, which will eventually replace the NWA DC9s that are leaving. (after DL and NW merge early in 2008). Right now there is no way NWA can get a spot for any 100 seaters in production, since JB, Air Canada, and USAir have most of the slots for the next couple years at EMB. As far as the size of the gates etc at terminal 5, that can all be renegotiated on the golf course. Give Vinnie an extra cigar, and he can figure out what to do.

As far as LAX goes, Delta will actually expand big time there after they emerge from Chap 11 in May. Right now they are using RJs to fill the gates temporarily until after BK is over. Wait for the announcement, as Trump says..."It's gonna be huuuuuge." I bet DL will give the JB guys DOH though. That would be fair, except the last guy on furlough that just came back was hired in 2001, right guys?

Delta and ALPA don't have to merge any lists with JB, and they will probably only get DOH with a 1 year fence, if it happens.

There's only one person that is ever happy with a merger/aquisition, and that's the No. #1 pilot on the sen. list.

What an idiot. OK wrong wording. We have use of 13 757ER's. Is that better?

First off I don't think that we will buy jetBlue. We don't want the airframes we want the facilities in JFK. That being said your post is one of the funniest I've seen in a long time. You believe that an airline with an entire fleet of narrowbody airframes would be integrated by relative seniority to an airline made up primarily of widebodies. This may be a popular opinion in your ranks but it wouldn't even come close to passing muster at Delta. What protections do you have in your individual contracts? Your most senior hire date there is either 99 or 00. You would actually think that they should hold a hire date equal to an 88-89 hire here at Delta (widebody Captain). Nice try you can apply at airlineapps.com like everyone else.

Nice, that's how it's going down, IF it goes down. Start loading your resumes to the regionals. Besides, The caliber of pilot at DAL is no comparison to BJ pilots. What makes you think they want your school of thought invading their campus. DAL pilot group isn't even close to you guys when speaking of quality of pilot. Just because you know how to fly an airplane you think you deserve to belong to a top notch pilot group through intergration or DOH? Gimme a break, maybe you guys have a shot at a regional if your lucky. Your reputation as pilots and headliners speak for themselves. BJ pelotas would be a liability to DAL & they are going to steer clear of the weaklings.

Thats the biggest load of crap I've heard in a long time. Yep, the former F16 driver I flew with was a real loser, no comparison to ultra megga elite top dog uber pilots that fly at Delta, no sir.

Dude, you sound like Needlemyer in Animal House. "Whats that on your uniform mister? A pledge pin? What kind of fraternity would pledge a "man" of your caliber? Now drop and give me twenty". By the way, most of us come from "top notch" pilot groups including Delta. Classic drunken 3210LT rant. Drinking again?

Your pay rates on the E190, even after the raise, is closer to Mesa's pay than most airlines. And, as far as an exit, my friends there say around May 1st, with a plan to possibly buy you. (DOH is fine with them)

Heavy Set, way do you have such a hair up your ass about Jetblue at the moment.

Now Occam,
I know who you are, and I know you were at NWA during an even bigger "sleepover" at the old terminal in DTW!
QED

1. Was your mom excited when you told her you'd solved the riddle?

2. What's your point? NWA used to sleep 10,000 regularly each winter in the old terminal.

No, I'll tell you what's funny sparky. Watching your day to day ops.
Not being able to operate during IROPS. Not knowing where crews/planes are....That's funny!
5 Quarters and NO profits! I thought you guys were the darlings of the industry? Why are pilots leaving then? Lots of guys jumping ship to go back to their (failed?) legacy jobs!
How many North American Airplanes have I seen at your gates, ATA, OAI???
DL will exit bankruptcy, mark my words. The question sport, is how long before Jet Blue is in it?

I guess we could have always farmed out our flying to XJ!

DL will exit bankruptcy????? yeah, after how many EXTENSIONS, 7,8,9?????

pilots leaving for their legacy. best of luck. im sure their ALPA brethrens will ensure their job security with their low seniorty number. (just like your Dalpa brothers did by picking up extra flying)

jetblue in bankruptcy? nice pipedream. that will only happen when jetblue buys DL. (it'll be great seeing you delta boys in blueshirts)

I was there Spanky...How many people does the JB terminal sleep. How many National Guardsmen were called out to stop the people from rioting in your terminal?

Better than drinking the blue juice eh junior?

Lemme guess, your union at JB voted in those high paying 190 rates!?;)
What's the attrition rate sport? I bet you have a lot of folks hanging around waiting for Neelman to make more apologies for putting your pax on ATA, OAI and NAA!

It will be even funnier having you boys stapled to the bottom! After all, they're YOUR 190 rates!

Am I the only one getting aroused by the world's largest airport orgy? One huge congealed mass of angry skin. Grrrr.

Just two months ago, every Delta Pilot I saw was wearing a 'keep Delta, my Delta', now these same guys are running it about how they are going to buy an airline, and isn't funny to watch them squirm.

So hypocritical and myopic.
