Here we go again

If DAL buys SWA, how would it be integrated?

If SWA buys a Peanut company, how would it be integrated?

If JetBlue buys Terra Blue Potato chip company, how would it be integrated?

If you would come up with a REAL TOPIC FOR DISCUSSION, how would it be responded to?

Tender spot? Real topic discussed by President of the frikin company dippo.

1800 pilots would be allowed to interview for the job they already have.

This thread is as relevent as any other on this or any other message board. Hope I don't damage anyone's self-esteem...

TWAdude--ALPA merger policy? You mean "every man for himself" or "to the victor go the spoils"? ;) TC

I think it would definitely go relative seniority. The B6 guys have taken a serious risk by going to a company in the early 2000's when they could have gone to any legacy. They created a company that is now desired by most majors, and if they were eventually bought by a DAL, then they should reap some of the rewards.

A relative seniority merger wouldn't affect any current DL pilot. In fact it would probably be a small blip on the bidding seniority at Delta if 1800 guys were merged! The senior 100 guys at B6 could probably hold left seat on most the heavies at DL. But B6 will be bringing the coveted 100 seater that DL wants so much.

Just an opinion...but a popular one among the ranks!

Delta pilots would all be stapled under the JetBlue pilots. Then, when the individual 5-yr pilot contracts start to run out at Jetblue, each of those Jetblue pilots will then be stapled under the Delta pilots.

"It's simply the fairest way to merge the two groups," commented Delta CEO Gerald Grinstein. "I can't imagine why the pilot groups would have any animosity over a staple-merger." Grinstein went on to add, "It worked so well for the TWA pilots at AA, we are simply trying to emulate them." Grinstein concluded by saying, "AA and TWA were two great airlines with one great future, and look how fair the TWA pilots ended up as a result of the staple... that is the kind of integration success we're looking for in a Delta / JetBlue merger."

Exactly!
I also agree that this thread is irrelevent! In no way is DL going to buy JB!
After spending millions to rid the fleet of excess airframes/fleet types, that's all we would need is to pick up not 1 but 2 new fleet types!

First off I don't think that we will buy jetBlue. We don't want the airframes we want the facilities in JFK. That being said your post is one of the funniest I've seen in a long time. You believe that an airline with an entire fleet of narrowbody airframes would be integrated by relative seniority to an airline made up primarily of widebodies. This may be a popular opinion in your ranks but it wouldn't even come close to passing muster at Delta. What protections do you have in your individual contracts? Your most senior hire date there is either 99 or 00. You would actually think that they should hold a hire date equal to an 88-89 hire here at Delta (widebody Captain). Nice try you can apply at airlineapps.com like everyone else.

I doubt Delta will buy Jetblue. It we did, the integration would likely go somewhere in between DOH and relative seniority. And when I say relative seniority I don't mean 50% on the JB list ends up at 50% on the combined list. I mean a mid level narrowbody captain ends up a mid level narrowbody captain on the combined list. Having said that, I think one thing that would absolutely happen is that the JetBlue pilots would be fenced off the widebody aircraft for at least 10 years, maybe more.

Ok, if I had gone to a legacy in the early 2000's, I would have been furloughed-- FACT. No DOT judge would ever approve such a merger because Delta has done such a great job overlapping every route we fly.

The only people that went to jetBlue when it was a risky low-paying startup were people that couldn't get hired by the majors, or were from an older demographic. Many of the same folks go from startup to startup.

Don't act like the people that went to jetBlue in the beginning had nostradamus-like premonitions and were turning down major jobs left and right...they went to yet another risky startup in the hopes everything would pan out.

Fortunately for them, things have gone pretty well over there.

That is the best statement on this thread. Even if Delta wanted to buy JetBlue, it won't happen because of this. Two very large East coast shuttles being merged to make a mega-shuttle won't happen. NY politicians love JetBlue and would not allow Delta to takeover JetBlue and dismantle the carrier just to get a new terminal in JFK. They like the $39 fares from JFK to BUF.

There are some that did turn down major airline job offers. Not all of the guys are complete tools. Some of them are great guys that I'm sure Delta would have hired back in 99-00.

Agreed, there are some J'bluers with very impressive resumes (as is with Delta).

That said, cross the merger bridge if you come to it. This is all speculation and means nothing but stirring a pot.

one of delta's retarded corporate officers talking about buying jetblue???? pleasssssssseeeeee

someone should ask when he expects delta to exit bankruptcy.... does anybody REALLY know??? (or are they going to ask for ANOTHER extension)?

delta buying jetblue, there's the joke of the day!!

It's no secret DAL is interested in the jetBlue terminal at JFK (sleeps 10,000!). That has fueled speculation that DAL would purchase all of jetBlue in order to acqure the terminal...then round-file the rest of the operation.

1. DAL has a history of purchasing big chunks of other airlines when they're really only after certain specific morsels. (Think PAA)

2. It's possible only if DAL finds another party in the deal to assume the remainder of jetBlue. Some other operator or investor might be interested, especially after the remaining assets were devalued by the removal of the terminal. (Another terminal and/or gate access at JFK would have to be part of the overall deal)

3. Ain't gonna happen in bankruptcy court because it's waaaay too public a forum. Best to do something after exiting Chapter 11.

4. A merger of pilot lists is unlikely because a merger of fleets is unlikely. If that were to happen...Allegeny-Mohawk is the precedent. It's possible DAL could be interested in those A320's if DAL were to suddenly start to operate another 164-ship fleet of Airbus aircraft. With cool, easy-to-spot-in-the-snow red tails!

5. Any integration of the lists would have to involve the cabin groomers at DAL too....since the pilots at jetBlue fit into both labor classifications. <--that's a joke, Chef!

There is NO WAY that Delta would even consider buying JB. They want NOTHING to do with Scarebus and that would just increase costs. They have plenty to contend with....without dealing up that mess. Hey, maybe Parker will take a SHOT at ya? I mean attempted take over....not a drink!;)

Now that's funny! LOL
