Well said Lear!

Union = negotiated payscales for new equipment

Non-union = whatever Uncle Phil decides to pay.

Big, big difference!

This is just the beginning.

Pinnacle family plan insurance rate about $50.00 a month

Colgan family plan insurance rate about $335.00 a month

is this true?

you would think that if colgan management is at all interested in keeping alpa off property they would try to address such huge issues as this.

Sure they will....but they are starting their 3rd flying lesson at ATP this morning..... and the flight instructors all over the country will be padding thier logbooks to make the magical 1500 hours to be a street captain.....

I don't know, is that the correct insurance amount for Colgan?

My single coverage at PCL was $30 per paycheck. My family coverage insurance was $50 per paycheck.

You can multiply those times 4 at AirTran as well, I had no idea how good the PCL Insurance section of the contract was until I left.

Care to list them....
1. When first announced, I predicted that Uncle Phil would keep the companies separate. Within a week, PCL made that announcement.
2. When they announced they were keeping the companies separate, I predicted that within a very short time span, PT would start growing Colgan and use them as a whipsaw against PCL. 2 weeks later, the Q-400 order was announced.
3. When the Q-400 order came out, I predicted that you guys would want a union on property but, by the time it was needed, it would be WAY too late. NOW a lot more of your pilots are screaming the need for a union, but it will take 2-3 YEARS before you see any improvements with one.
4. When the Q-400 order was announced, everyone was talking payrates and all the Colgan pilots thought you'd get competitive rates. I predicted you'd be in the bottom 3 pay rates, you were actually in the bottom 2, AND they lowered some other position's pay rates as well from what I'm hearing.

Granted, these were easy to see coming, IF you know and expect THE ABSOLUTE WORST from Pinnacle management. You have to think like them though, to predict their behavior.

I simply envision the greediest people alive, add a bit of narcissism, and a touch of short-sightedness, and think of the worst way they could screw the pilots to make an extra dollar.

I usually end up right on target.

PCL management will bend you over the barrell to suck every last drop of blood from you that they can, knowing you are NOT a long-term asset, but rather a short-term liability that will go away once you have enough flight time and they can replace you with a lower-seniority, lower-paying pilot.

It's simple math, and they are NOT interested in your well-being.

That said, you HAVE to do what's in your own best interest. Those of you making Captain now are going to have a HARD time getting enough flight time to be competitive in time to hit the big hiring curve that's started at the majors. It's historically only 2-3 years in duration, and if you miss it, you're going to be stuck at Colgan.

Might as well make it a DECENT place to work, ay?
