That's great, except there are US-China flights already from IAD to PEK (just awarded to UAL), EWR--PEK (CAL 777), and JFK to PVG (China Eastern Airlines). All of those cities are within 100 miles to PHL. Sorry, it is very doubtful that it will be awarded to USAir, since ATL has no China service whatsoever, and neither does the entire SE. Good try! Our 777LRs would also be made in the USA--at Boeing, and A340s are made in Europe. Doesn't the US Government award this route? Wow, another good reason. Amazing.

Bye Bye--General Lee

It probably won't be PHL, my beat if really approved it would be out of CLT. Come on Lee, seems anything US Airways does gets your little Elmo Panties all in a knot! Easy up lil man, competition is good!
Waste more time on your BK, pension and your imaginary 200k a year salary!

Billy,

Good response again. I gave you the real numbers, but you choose to look at your stub and grin and bear it. Good for you. Cradads are cheap when you fish for them off your dock.

Anyway, the USAir application is laughable. They have no orders for any plane that could do it, and are in TALKS for maybe getting some from Air Canada. The city they chose is close to other cities that already have service. And, the US Govt would rather have their own home built 777s flying the route, rather than start A340 service. Does any US carrier fly A340s? Nope. Competition is good, but not all in one area (the NE). Sorry, keep trying to debate it....

Oberstar will block this deal. Delta will get anything it wants.

Every AWA pilot will receive a profit-sharing check this month of approximately $4700 (gross).

Great for you guys. We will get 11% raise for the next two years, minimum. The money we will get for the pension ($650 million note) will go towards filling up the 2008 401K limit, and our equity stake ($2.1 billion--my personal amount will be $270,000) will go towards filling last year's 401K and this years limit ($44,000 per year). When all that happens, Delta will still have to pay us the 9% DC fund contribution, and the 2% matching for our 401ks, all in cash each month. I also give 10% of my own funds toward my 401k, and that will stop too----so I will get a 21% raise for the next two years. Isn't that great?

Yep!

Were you guys laughing when you heard Parker had to go to a Woman's prison?

Bye Bye--General Lee

Actually I was laughing when I found out he served his time in girly jail. I personally have ZERO respect for him. Drinking and driving has killed a family member of mine and they were the sober part of that tango. Also having worked as a paramedic in the NW I have seen my fair share of idiots killing kids and their parents. I think Parker should lose his job. But that's just me... And I'll stop this rant before I go too far on this board.

Andy

I could maybe understand if it was his first offense, there are a bunch of people that get pinched with .08 and .09! However I believe it was his third DUI offense!! This is kinda sad! No excuses for that!!
But then again if you were gonna do time..... hmmmmm I think most of us would want to go to the girly prison as well! Well, except if your G.L.

.08 is no worse than driving fatigued, distracted(cell phone), elderly or flying a standup/redeye. I too have lost someone to a drunk driver. He was .31 and had many prior arrests.

Still in "talks"? Hmmmm, can't quite seal the deal can they. Perhaps you'd have a chance if you "actually" had an aircraft that could do the route, instead of just being in "talks".

C'mon Mr. research you should already know. Those carriers came to us with those a/c not the other way around. Now I will not wish ill will on you because you're already down but keep watching cause this is really going to get interesting.

Sorry to hear that. You and Andy have my deepest condolences.

More like amusing.:D

WD, I'm mostly just pulling your chain. I have a very good friend who is an 11 year AWA Airbi captain and I certainly don't wish you ill will either, however, I do believe that if LCC wants to be taken seriously for the China route they ought to get the aircraft to fly the route ASAP, not just talk about them. Talk is cheap, get 4 of them today, put them on some long haul routes to Europe or South America and make your proposal. JMHO.

I don't believe you're sorry, in fact I'm starting to peg you as a racist a$$. You like bashing US. How dare this little puke of an airline that was on the edge of elimination try to get some of OUR international flying. Starting to feel a little threatend huh big guy? That's ok, you go on right ahead and continue. Why don't you call the DOT and remind them they have to be racist in their decision to award the route to only a boeing plane.

Racist? Come on now. Nationalistic pride maybe? Yeah. This is all about national jobs. Used A340s do nothing for this country. Delta has orders for 777s, which is beneficial for everyone here. Senator Stevens of Alaska asked Doug Parker what kind of planes you have on order at the DL/US Commerce Hearing. Parker fumbled, trying to state that you had a mix, forgetting about all of the EMB-190s you currently have on order, and the A321s coming your way soon (you exercised 5 options recently).

As far as being threatened, this is all business. United projected they will make an extra $200 million in yearly revenue from the IAD--PEK route. We want more flights to Asia (we already go to NRT and will be starting Seoul (ICN) in May). We are making and effort to fly to Asia, and you guys haven't started anything at all. You used to go to Nagoya way back when, but that was trashed. You need to make more of an effort first before going for the big prize of China.

Your past arguments about Northwest flying A330s to Europe or Asia have little merrit, since NWA was awarded the Asia routes when they used to fly B-720s or 707s on them, and the European routes do not need our Gov't approval. Big difference here, and Boeing will be lobbying as well as DL for these routes.

US Airways looks to other Asia routes

If the carrier wins approval for a nonstop China link, Tokyo might be next. It still seeks long-range jets.

By Tom Belden

Inquirer Staff Writer

Philadelphia could get more direct air service to Asia - including flights to Tokyo - were US Airways to win approval to launch nonstop trips to China next year, the airline's chief executive officer, Doug Parker, said yesterday.
As expected, US Airways announced it would file an application with the U.S. Department of Transportation later this year to start flying once a day in each direction between Philadelphia International Airport and Shanghai, China's booming business capital.
Five other U.S. carriers - American, Continental, Delta, Northwest and Hawaiian - also are expected to apply for the right to fly between China and one of their U.S. hub airports.
US Airways would need to buy or lease additional, long-range jets to make the 12-hour flights to China, and could use the same planes to open other routes to Asia, Parker said at City Hall news conference.
"Tokyo would be a terrific route out of Philadelphia," he said. "If we do well to Shanghai, we'll have the planes to go nonstop to Narita," Tokyo's international airport.
US Airways would not need permission from U.S. or Japanese officials to operate those flights, but would have to obtain landing slots at Narita Airport, which are in short supply and desired by other major airlines, Parker said.
US Airways has been talking to Ace Aviation Holdings Ltd., the parent of Air Canada, about buying or leasing Airbus A340 jets that Air Canada expects to begin replacing this year, Bloomberg News reported. The four-engine A340 has a range of more than 8,000 miles.
US Airways spokesman Philip Gee said the airline has talked to several potential sellers of long-range planes, but hasn't decided what it would use if it gets the Philadelphia-Shanghai route.
In announcing its China plans here, US Airways signaled that it would need help from Philadelphia's business community and political leaders to win the route. Parker called on Mayor Street and a roomful of business and civic leaders at the news conference to help convince federal regulators that Philadelphia is the best choice, in part because it is the largest metropolitan area now with no nonstops to China.
U.S.-to-China airline service is more limited than service to most international destinations. Under a six-year agreement between the United States and China signed in 2004, airlines will be able to offer 195 new flights a week, phased in over the term of the pact.
Each time the Transportation Department opens a proceeding to award an airline more China service, it is bombarded with economic studies and letters from members of Congress and state and local leaders in support of the hometown airline.
Mark Schweiker, president of the Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce, said Parker would speak at a meeting of the chamber's CEO Council for Growth this morning to help plot the region's strategy to win the route. Parker is the only member of the CEO Council who lives outside the region.
Some leaders of Philadelphia's Chinese community and Chinatown business owners were enthusiastic about US Airways' plan, saying it would boost business and leisure travel between the region and China, one of the world's fastest-growing economies.
Yong Lu, owner of Success Travel, a Chinatown travel agency and driving school, said a route between Philadelphia and southern China would be even better than one to Shanghai, because most Chinese in the area come from that part of the country. But any nonstop service would better than connecting flights going through another U.S. airport, which can take 24 hours or more to reach southern China, she said.
"US Airways would get a lot of business," she said.

I figured that you were clowining which is why I responded the way I did. You really have to take this board for what it's worth, fun and games. Where else could you go to read commentary from a pilot from Transtates who got his degree from western career college (off the back of a match book) and tricked DAL managment in to thinking he had a real education past tv watching and repair?? Hmmmm someone like oh say 737PYLT;)

What about a confederate worshiper who's only life is DAL and this web board and the proof is 8000 plus post strong. He's a big Obestar fan and has a secret love affair with him. WHo could it be???Ahhhh you guessed it General Lee:laugh:

And there is my personal favorite the one who will come after anyone who says anything about DAL that he doens't like even if he's wrong. The one the only super Delta puppy 800 Dog:D

China flying, it's not going to happen until 08 so no real rush to do anything at this time. It only makes sense to wait until there is a single seniority list before putting out a bid for this fllying. Unless I am wrong it's only a short course for A330 pilots and those of us on the A320/321 it's a 30 day transition.

Have a good weekend, that is if you are senior enough to hold it off like some of us;)

You're right, how can you take this seriously....Especially from a TSA washout who barely got past the Air Wisconsin hiring board, and only made it to awa because there was no college degree required and nobody really cared to work there. Besides, his "manly" side business is what really keeps him "happy.":bomb: ;) You know, someone like Wisky Driver!!!:D
