I got the call for class this month, very excited!

Is there anyone out there who has been through class recently (or just knows the answer) that could help me out with a few things?

How did ya'll handle your accomodations and transportation during class?

Also, are there any days off during class? When were you able to begin jumpseating?

Can't wait to get started! Thanks to all the guys on this board who have represented their company so well and helped me out in the process.

1. Accomodations are up to you, options include crash pad, hotel, friend/relative, room in house, or vacation rental with other classmates.

Might depend if you are wanting LAS as a base after training or to get to FLA as soon as possible. Training will last around 6 weeks, give or take one or more weeks. You will usually finish that month out in LAS. And seems to be lately that you will spend at least some time there before a FLA base is an option as well.

2. Weekends off during the ground portion of training, they will do everything possible to get you an ID the first week to be able to jumpseat home that first weekend. Lots of commuters, so very commuter friendly! CASS too!

To clarify a few things I learned from the interview.
There are 6-7 pilots at Sanford waiting for the next class to come about so they can hopefully quit commuting to Las Vegas and finally be based in Orlando. Needless to say that the folks that were hired yesterday will be Las Vegas based for a while. When I interviewed on Tuesday, 3 of us 4 lived in Florida. I know that at least one of those besides myself lived close to Sanford and the commute to Las Vegas was not an option, hence, I know why I did not get selected. It wasn't logical and being a family, I wasn't about to pack up and move.
Since they don't plan on hiring again until late summer, those hired this week can plan on sitting reserve until the next class graduates. So figure until mid-fall. That's fine if you live in domicile.
Also, the reality of upgrade... Figure 2 years according to the CP.
Good luck to all that did get hired. It looks like a prosperous company and i would have loved to been a part if I could have been based in Sanford.

also for you folks, $270 is the insurance for family coverage each month plus a 1000 deductable. Ouch.

I have a class date in march for captain upgarde with Pinnacle so I guess I'll follow through with that.
 
Sorry things didn't line up CRJ. You make some valid and well-thought out points that may well prove accurate. That being said, I must admit that as long as I've been here, neither I nor anyone else has been able to predict outcomes with the remotest level of accuracy. That includes transfers, class dates, numbers, aircraft deliveries, etc. As I'm sure you're aware, things change very rapidly in this industry and Allegiant is not immune to that. If anything, it changes faster here...usually for the better. For the record, the CP has a tendency to be extremely conservative with his forecasts to avoid setting unrealistic expectations. It might turn out to be accurate, but keep that in mind.

With the upcoming upswing in hiring from mature airlines with stronger compensation/benefits packages, we expect a proportionate level of turnover. As much as Allegiant is the perfect fit for many, for others, particularly our commuters, it's not; some take their experience and move on. For those wishing for upward mobility and transfers, it's good news.

Again, sorry things didn't work out. In the end you may find the upcoming upgrade at Pinnacle will work in your favor. Good luck in any event.

I don't think our insurance is any better or worse than most other airlines. I'm not paying any more here than I was at Comair with basically the same coverage. The $1000 yearly deductible is for the entire family. Not too bad if you have children.

Extremely accurate post.
 
And the deductiable does not apply to routine medical visits, you simply pay your copay and you are good to go. No, spending $500 prior to any insurance kicking in. I thought when I interviewed that the medical insurance was horrible, based on what they give you in the interview. However, after starting, it is a lot better than stated and better than any regional or cargo company that I have worked for.

My wife, who is a medical insurance specialist, didn't say "ouch". Good luck on the upgrade at Pinnacle!

What were the total stats? How many interviewed/Hired. Lowest time of someone hired without an internal rec? Competitive times?

No one on this board is going to have those numbers...

I know of someone with just over 3000 hours total that was interviewed and I'm not sure if he was hired.

They usually interview 4-8 people for every 1 person that they hire. So for a class of ten they will interview probably around 50 or 60 for the class of ten. I have heard that since the IPO, they have been receiving resumes from individuals with higher time, around 7500+ TT
 
I was just hired. I heard there was approximately 36 interviewed, and 10 hired. Hard to say on the times... In my interview group, there was another regional guy, and a corporate guy, and one from Champion... Not sure yet who else got hired. Myself, I got some 4500 ish hours, and 2500 ish PIC, and a friend forwarded my resume to the CP. Good luck in the searching. Seems like things are finally opening up!
 
There have been days when we've hired 5-6 out of 8 candidates. Other days, we've only hired 2-3. It all depends on the candidate.

As to minimums, the number is 3000 with an ATP. That's it. We've turned away folks with far more experience, for a variety of reasons. The quality of time is a factor, but if you've been invited for an interview, the job is yours to lose. Obviously turbojet is a plus, but not essential. Generally speaking, if you're background is turboprop, it should have ample PIC.

Also considered, FMS and experience with flight guidance systems. Again, we've hired pilots without it... No absolutes and the 'whole person' concept is weighed in. Like any interview, be yourself.

The interviewers will be representatives from HR, Chief Pilot, Training and line captains. HR and the CP are going to want to see a track record of consistancy and reliability. They don't want to hire a headache. If you've had a history of being absent, for whatever reason, have a police record, or have a lot of breaks in your flying career, it will come up.

The training folks are going to want to determine your trainability. They have a budget to manage and can't spend gobs of money on extra sim time and IOE. One, maybe 2 pinks in your career are not necessarily cause for concern, however a pattern of failures and or/ violations could be.

The line captains, among other things, are picturing themselves sitting in the cockpit with you for a month. Pretty small office... In addition to not wanting to get violated because of the actions of a weak FO, they actually get flack from other captains when they allow a weak candidate through the hiring process. For this reason, hiring captains like to see an internal rec on a resume; it gives them some assurances the candidate is solid. This is something a 45-minute interview will seldom allow.

Just some 'big picture' hiring stuff...again, no absolutes. A fun, enthusiatic, and outgoing personality will go a long way.

What is the average commute time from some of the areas around vegas to the airport ....North vegas...Henderson...etc..

Also what is the employee parking lot like....Ex. PDX averages 25minutes lot to checkin/gate side....SEA is 20-40 minutes...How does this figure into the 1 hour call out.

I think if you do a search on past posts, you'll find answers to all of your questions.

parking lot is above the terminal... 7 minutes to ops if you catch the tram and 10 if you have to wait for it.
 
Its rare you get a very short notice call out.. Typically you know for days... If you do get a 1 hr call and it takes you 1.5 hours, you aren't up $hits creek... They are pretty understanding.
