Try this: Dress for your interview in your current company's uniform. I saw that happen once.

Function over fashion
First off--- yes this is flame.
But really ----especially if you wear a blue pants.... You do not look like a professional. You do not look like someone who is ready to command a respectable pay-scale at the bargaining table.
There have been many books written on how to dress for success, and I am pretty sure that you would be hard pressed to find the section: How to command respect from the world while wearing a leather bomber jacket with a flexi-fit bottom.
I, for one, feel that how we present ourselves impacts what type of results we get at the negotiating table..... I know, I know, here comes the part where someone points out that SWA guys make a bunch of money (for a post 9\11 world). Well, they also have never had any set backs financially, and I would attribute this more to their management than to their Leather Jackets.
Yes, I did in fact start this thread to flame bait you......But I also think you look silly.:uzi:
You can have both. The long trench coat is much more functional than that ridiculous leather eyesore. The trench coat covers you down past the knees. The leather only covers from the waist up. When I'm preflighting a plane in Halifax in the middle of January, I'd prefer for my legs to be warm also.

First off... I have never taken a cut in pay.
More than what coats pilots wear and the impression they make......how about some of the really stupid stickers I see on some flight bags. I have seen
1. "Crashing sucks".
2. Various stickers from unions with some sort of cute motto that the public is baffled and confused by.
3. Various political stickers (why put on a flight bag?)
4. "If it ain't Boeing, I ain't going"....
If you need a trench coat to do a walk around in Halifax you are a wussy. I did walk-arounds in Minot for 3 yrs with just a flt. suit. I was too poor for a coat. I still have all my fingers a toes too.
Don't you know Cargo pilots aren't real professionals.I go from the hotel to the cargo ramp, then to the airplane. Then on the other side of the trip I go from the airplane to the hotel van. If I wear the leather, is that OK?
Im just a freight dog.
I dont think that effects my union negotiations at all.
This is a serious question back at you, I would like to know your view, thanks for the responce.
All kinds of "Jesus" stickers. (Just what the public wants to see on their pilots bag.)
I am not sure where you saw ramp vans following military guys on walk-arounds but it wasn't at any unit I worked at. I am sure it was something you imagined while on peyote or smoked salmon in Halifax
People need to lighten up on the uniform thing. Passengers don't care about the uniform. The only people that seem to get all caught up about the uniform are the ones like the guy I saw in the mall the other day in full uniform -- DORKS! ok back to t.v. that was my two cents for the night.

Did you bet your buddy how many replies you could get on this topic?? I am officially nominating you for "Flightinfo tool of the year." Too bad you couldnt have posted this a few days from now and you'd have a commanding lead in 2007...............
Well, I just noticed some pretty pissed off people at the airports when the subject was brought up, seemed like a fun thing to do when i started this topic, oh, and by the way, i was also making a point about how some people have rediculous notions about our jobs.Did you bet your buddy how many replies you could get on this topic?? Trench coat is a better option. But it doesn't seem to be in fashion anymore. It was in the '80s.
Judging from the folks that I sit next to on SWA flights,...
