I was driving down the road today and heard the local NPR station give a warning for the first winter storm by 3 PM and tell us to expect up to 10 inches by tomorrow PM.

Funny thing: it has been 60 degrees and clear skies as of two days ago...

Okay, I have to ask. Besides the freezing drizzle, why would they cancel? Delays, while they clean the runway, sure, but why cancel 24 hours ahead of time? Can you not take off before your hold over time expires? How much snow are they expecting? I would think ORD has good removal equipment.

im pretty sure that in the cl-65 holdover times you simply cannot takeoff with freezing drizzle, only the dry stuff, or wet snow.
