AirTran already offers the same as most airlines- an OAL jumpseater carried free for every installed jumpseat.

I am no longer willing to give up anything for unlimited jumpseats. Sorry.

so why don't you put your money where your mouth is, and start buying all those OAL guys their walk-up passes?

Makes about as much sense as the rest of your post.
Ty, normally I like your posts, but you are drinking the koolaid by the pitcher on this one. So allow me to retort:

1. You are "no longer willing to give up anything for unlimited jumpseats". Duly noted. Let me ask you this: Who said you had to give up anything? This is such a cut and dry issue. When it comes to an ethical issue such as this...We don't GIVE; we TAKE!

2. Most airlines offer unlimted jumpseats regardless of how many jumpseats are installed in the cockpit. Where have you been?

3. I have put my own money up. Last month, myself and the guy I was flying with both came up with the $25 to REIMBURSE a SWA pilot who was 2nd in line behind an AA pilot for the jumpseat because we were so embarrassed by our management's greed. Now...what have you done besides complain about the rational and legitimate frustrations posted on this board regarding this issue?

Donverita,

Thanks, you are a good guy. Hope things work out for you in the this contract.

Ty,

I have read many of your posts as well, I believe you mentioned due to the bitching on this board you are not willing to give anything in exchange for the eliminating this. First off, it is no cost item, we offer numerous airlines unlimited JS, so do many airlines now, none of us haf to negotiate or give anything for it. Second, please tell me you are not lumping the majority of professional pilots in this industry based upon the postings of the usual suspects, malcontents, and flame-baiters on this board.

Regards,

AAflyer

Management claims they made $2 or $3 million last year on the walk-up pass. Divide that $3 million by 1500 pilots, and you come up with $2,000. per year per pilot. Well, that $2,000. would buy a lot of $25. walk-up passes- 80 of them, to be exact, so why don't you put your money where your mouth is, and start buying all those OAL guys their walk-up passes?

Makes about as much sense as the rest of your post.

Let's do the math on Mgmt's numbers, we'll use the $2M figure...

$2M / $25 for each js rider that wasn't the first one = 80,000 jumpseat riders that weren't the first one and had to pay.

80,000 / 365 days = 219 "other than 1st jumpseaters" every day.

According to our website we have almost 700 flights a day within our system. To average over 200 "other than 1st jumpseaters" per day it would mean giving rides to over 400 total offline guys per day. Do you really think that we average 400 offline guys per day on our 700 flights? I don't see how the numbers could possibly add up to $2M per year.

Even if you assume they make $1M a year, that would mean that over 100 guys per day have to pay the $25 fee. Still highly unlikely, IMO.

We shouldn't have to give a thing to have unlimited jumpseats for offline guys. Management just needs to do it.

I do not think we need any type of commuter policy (ie- only miss one turn so that one doesn't use 4 days of sick pay). If you can't make it to work on time you need to leave sooner (day before if necessary),
Speak for yourself there, brutha.

I have NO interest in coming up the night before or staying the night after any given trip. My off days are MY OFF DAYS. NOT commuting days. If I wanted commuting days at the beginning and end of my rotations I would have stayed at Flexjet.

use up all your sick pay in 2 months or move your A -- to ATL. Is it inconvenient to waste a day commuting? yes. But it is the price you pay to live in your "paradise".
Pilots have been and always will be primarily commuters. THAT is the reality. To say that we should have to pay some additional price for it is simply out of touch with the reality of aviation life.

As far as being outvoted 65% to 35%, that's why we vote on a TA. Follow the appropriate process, get your new policy added to the TA and hope for the best.
I certainly hope that my voice is heard. I appreciate the idea that I can have at least 2 (I usually leave at least 3) commute attempts into domicile and, if I can't make it, can call in with no disciplinary action taken against me and the minimal amount of flying removed reasonable to get me back on my trip.

Dock my pay, that's fine. I'm not asking to be pay protected for free, but I DO want the REMAINDER of my trip back as soon as I can make it into domicile. This is the ONLY airline I've ever heard of the will take an entire 4 day trip off you when your doctor has a release note putting you back online in 2 days.

And they wonder why they have a hard time staffing sometimes. If they'd put guys back on their trips IF they were no longer sick, it might, just *might*, free up some reserves.

Just a thought... still trying to figure this place out. Every airline I've worked for always has a different way of thinking, and this one is taking me longer to get my head around than any others.

I still don't get why a win-win for both sides always has to be some kind of powerplay where one side gets to claim "victory". Seems kind of infantile to me...

No Logo Lights..... In ATL and MCO .... Build Solidarity... Lets start with that! Contract !!

Isn't there something more productive that could be done instead of comprimising safety? Not to mention the bit of advertising we are getting from the logo lights. I just don't understand the mentality of it. It seems that we would want to be attracting more customers with our product so that there will be more money in the pilot pay slice of pie. Running off/not attracting customers reduces that slice of pie so therefore when it comes time to negotiate a payscale we all lose.

RV

Leaving the logo lights off just isn't the way to do show solidarity. It's on there for safety reasons....see and be seen. It has very little if anything to do with advertising...if it did, we'd have the website on the tail. Unfortunately I don't have another idea but this one just doesn't make sense to me.

Heres an idea...

Next time the Communications Committee mails you the "company's version", don't open it, mark through your address, write retrurn to sender, put attn:Klaus under the Company's address and Send it right back to them.(put a stamp on it to make sure it gets there)

Send them the message that the Union speaks for you. No one else, and if they want to discuss it, put it on the table and TA it. Otherwise KMA.
