Kind of interesting - most of their newhires seem to come from a regional 121 background. Very few military folks. One CitationShares guy - that's an interesting gamble.....

why would you leave the military these days? You get better pay and a better retirement by staying in.
 
I was thinking the same thing about the military guys. Besides the most obvious, you get shot at, what are the main reasons guys leave the military for the way this industry is now? No flame, just curious. How many guys a year come out of the military and fly commercial?
 
I don't see any ATA guys on there. I thought the MEC was going to try to help help procure some interviews for the furloughed guys.

There were bunches and bunches of ATA guys in earlier class lists. That seems to have tapered off now, however. It's been more than a year, hasn't it?

I assure you that the set of skills used at a fractional are at least 3 times what any 121 pilot has to use. For example; fractional pilots fly under part 91, part 91k and part 135. many times all in the same day. No slam against 121 guys but fractional flying is far more demanding in almost every way.
 
I hope he was talking about the CS guy takeing the gamble by leaving the fractrional world for the airlines. I am friends with the person that left and by no means is CO takeing a gamble on him.

Flew Fractional for 7 years prior to going 121.. Airline flying is like taking grandma to church on sunday compared to frac flying. No Flame here just my humble opinion.

Do you have any 121 experience to back that up? Having done both types of flying, my take is there is no comparing them in that way. The skills involved are different. A 91/135 guy has to fly into some amazing fields requiring excellent briefing skills, where as his airline counterpart is just doing hub turns. On the other hand, the airline dude flies a lot more every day, into more consistently congested airspace, with a schedule to keep. You have the customers to deal with, we have a tug driver and FA's. Same art, different medium.

Not easier, not harder, different.

When I was a charter guy, it used to upset me to no end that the airlines seemed to prefer 121 folks. I didn't necessarily believe they showed favoritism, and thought I too would get my shot to prove myself. Here's the ugly truth: We do prefer to interview 121 and military candidates. Not because they're better, but because they are a known quantity for the majority of our pilot demographic. Period. It's not fair but that's how it works.

I interviewed at two major airlines within a month of updating my apps to show 121 PIC. After years of being qualified.

I know how talented and hard-working you folks are, but my career advice is that if you want to work at a major airline, (and you can afford to) go get some 121 experience.

You mean like it's a crappy job and you hate every minute of it, but you do it anyway out of a sense of obligation?

That and if the old bat's rich, she might leave you a little something in her will?

That might be because the military guys no better than to go work for CAL. The only reason people apply is because they are the one of few hiring. Look at their contract and you'll see it's a piece of crap.

Interesting gamble? I find your remarks an interesting choice of word(s); it may be good thing if you are wearing some mint flavored zapatos at the time of your post? ----

Considering CS hiring is very selective (experience-wise, as well as from a human resources perspective). BTW, most hiring for Shares pilots these days consists of a large group of recently retired 121 pilots, of which, some are recently retired CAL pilots.
