My cynical side thinks AA/US didn't grease the palms of our corrupt politicians enough, or DAL or UA did enough to have this thing delayed or deep sized. Who knows, maybe it is designed to knock off US and let them wither on the vine.

I love hearing the comments yesterday that DOJ was concerned the consumer would be hurt. Since when do corrupt politicians care about that?!
 
Isn't this the same kind of crap that happened back when Wolf tried to merge USAir with United?
 
The merger will go through. The DOJ is saving face by objecting. There is no chance in the end the merger is disallowed. After DL/NW and UA/CO they cannot tell AA/US they must compete at a disadvantage. There may be some pairing down but in my opinion the merger will no doubt go through.


Sure they can. The job of the DOJ is to look at things at the time they are happening. Those mergers hadn't happened when they were approved IOW there was more competition in the market.
 
When 6 state attorney generals also get involved, who know how it will turn out. There may be a compromise, but I bet the concessions will be deep and more than just DCA slots.

Money rules at the end of the day. There is $11 billion behind this merger, just a matter of time to see what you'll get for that amount of $$$.

Just because the pilots have not been integrated doesn't mean the east and west can be split up. The rest of the airline has been merged. There is no unscrambling this egg, regardless of what USAPA would like you to believe.
 
The merger will still go through. Torrow Lane will approve the merger. This will not go to court and will be settled out of court by divesting routes from DCA. Hostilities and posturing from DOJ and Parker caused this to escallate. Parker tried to give up no slots that would cause price destabilization. Politicians in DC want to keep fares low for their minions an make a stand to show the public how they are looking out for the little guys but in reality hurt those very same low paying jobs. Morons - Holder and others have no clue about buisness and the huge impact from all the people they harm. What a cluster.

The merger will procede and tomorrow the court WILL approve the merger. The DOJ can't unillaterally stop a merger and is a misnomer. This will all be settled by year's end.

I hope you're right, but was the POR submitted today?

I thought the judge was expected to take two weeks to review the POR?


Just because the pilots have not been integrated doesn't mean the east and west can be split up. The rest of the airline has been merged. There is no unscrambling this egg, regardless of what USAPA would like you to believe.

With out this merger the AOL Nic case will not have a hope of being ripe in the near future.

My advice to the US and American pilots is to stand up with your management and fight this. They are in the wrong and from what I've read and seen the DOJ has a poor case. As a registered Democrat I find this disturbing. The DOJ is controlled by the president, pretty much, and i view this as anti-middle class and anti-union. This and some other things that have happened, unrelated to aviation, in the courts are making me regret who I voted for.
 
What's really shocking is that neither AMR or LCC actually have a plan other than to merge! It is their responsibility to ensure that they have a viable standalone plan and as of right now, everyone expected this merger to happen. It will be interesting to see just how badly the executive management fights to get their severance package approved, which can only happen once the merger is done. Never stand in between a man and his 20 million dollar payout.

The DOJ is correct. Look at Delta and NWA, with their hyped up "this merger is good for everybody! jobs will be secured, no hubs will be cut" mantra. Memphis gone, Cincy mostly the same. If US Air and AA is approved, you can bet between PHL, CLT, or PHX, one of those will be chopped. There will be capacity cuts as the airline right-sizes itself. Long term, it will mean less jobs overall, less service to cities, and therefore less options for consumers. This merger doesn't make sense, nor did US Airways and Delta when Parker pushed his last dream that failed.

Why are you afraid of being split? The West saved the East and considers the East a heavy boat anchor... The West should be begging to be split off. This is your chance at freedom from the ball and chain that holds you back from your full potential.

This is your best chance at greatness. Make a break for it and prove to everyone that PHX cannot be held back.

Welcome to the club! First it's Obamacare to wreck healthcare, then it's no pipeline to help the Cannucks un landlock their oil, then it's using tax dollars to build a us preclearance facility in Abu Dhabi to Ethiad's benefit..... It's been a long slog for us aviation the since 2008.

I believe everyone should have access to good healthcare, but I wasn't a fan of how they did it.
