The DOJ is correct. Look at Delta and NWA, with their hyped up "this merger is good for everybody! jobs will be secured, no hubs will be cut" mantra. Memphis gone, Cincy mostly the same. If US Air and AA is approved, you can bet between PHL, CLT, or PHX, one of those will be chopped. There will be capacity cuts as the airline right-sizes itself. Long term, it will mean less jobs overall, less service to cities, and therefore less options for consumers. This merger doesn't make sense, nor did US Airways and Delta when Parker pushed his last dream that failed.

I'm a little out of touch with the goings on in the airline industry, but.........
Nothing you just posted falls under what the DOJ is supposed to be looking at.

I believe everyone should have access to good healthcare, but I wasn't a fan of how they did it.

15 million people didnt have healthcare before Obamacare and 10 million will still not have access to health care AFTER Obamacare. All the while it cost us $3 Trillion and caused an increase in taxes. TOTAL FAIL.

I think it falls under epic fail.

Good post

Ahhhhhh, good old Flightinfo. Morons high fiving idiots.

I made a prediction a while back that someday these merged airlines would be broken up. I didn't think it would be this quick, but that's the next step IMO. If this one gets blocked the outcry that follows will be break up DAL and UAL. (just like the Bells)

Remember 2000 when the average Congress member was saying "have you seen those salaries?" This isn't much different. These merged airlines will make money, and that is something this Country will not tolerate. Except one. And Uncle Sam will make sure they are profitable.

You may be right, but may I suggest a little more diplomacy. Unintelligent people rarely react well to having it pointed out that they are in fact.........stupid.

Just a stab in the dark here. Could the Texas side of it have anything to do with a little payback for "The Wright Amendment"?

Maybe, or you could google Jim Wright and see if that makes any sense?

AA should....buy the mess, merge the west, sell the East to Mesa, Pakistan, whoever...

The Feds want DCA slots to be given up, but the politicians want whoever gets them to keep service to small cities, which is what Parker said wold be first to go. I also have no doubt UA and DL greased palms in attempt to stifle a double TATL threat from a PHL/JFK combo.

The various states are for the most part AA or US strongholds and they want a promise that their interests will remain status qou or that the get a huge check from Dougie to make up lost tax revenue.

He said NO, at least not yet

I figured he'd have to postpone this until something could be resolved.

The more I look into the DOJ suit the more holes are poked into it. It's looking more and more like they filed this lawsuit when they did because they were running up against the clock. That is why so many people are scratching their heads as to their reasoning.

Also Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly the judge that will hear this case ruled in favor of Microsoft in their trial back in 2001. Reading her profile she seems like a straight to the point judge that will not drag this out long and she will expect certain things from the Doj which I don't think they will be able to provide.

In all likelihood this probably won't even head to trial. I expect a settlement before the end of September. This is either the biggest game of chicken or the doj has been taken over by some idiots.

I think now that the shell shock has worn off from the filing more and more people are analyzing this suit.

Of course it has! It's run by Eric Holder.

I think there will be an agreement. Make sure to buy LCC before it goes through and make some $$$. Just make sure you put in a stop :) in case there is no agreement.
