It's coming. This is a precusor to most recessions in the past. This will drive oil prices lower (as I predicted) by summer, with a further weakening towards the end of the year.

Good for the airline business????......yes and no. The easing in oil prices will help, but recessions usually mean less travel. The strong will grow stronger, and the weak will continue to lose market share.

I love it when GW is spending like mad to lift the economy and Greeenspan is trying to pull it back down with rates.

GW--Party now, pay later.

Greenspan-- Oh yeah! Party now, PAY NOW.

We will all pay for the War. No politics here, just an observation. Like Vietnam spending years ago. Gulf War I was cheap and is no comparison.

Yep, I got a welcome letter from Richard Milhouse and a certificate of appreciation from him along with an honorable discharge. Couldn't get into the guard.

lets be honest and not sugar coat this, FEMA bungled the Katrina response.

Katrina was depicted a week ahead of time via satellite images, and even 1 week out, the LA/Miss coast was the likely target

FEMA, working under Brown, a Bush appointee, bungled this.

The buck stops at Bush. If a career emergency response worker or similar credentials was at the top, instead of a horse judge who was the college roomate to someone on Bush's campaign, we may have had another response.

I think a careful review of the facts as well as the roles of FEMA, the State and Local governments in the case of a natural disaster would show that the City and State are to blame for the lousy initial repsonse.
City and state are the "first responders". FEMA comes in after the initial response.
Florida and Texas understand this relationship, have responsible state and local governments and are very much prepared for these kinds of events. Officials in Florida and Texas were shocked at the lack of preparedness and response by New Orleans and the state of Louisianna.
Looking back, the lack of response is not that surprising given the finances of the "great" state of Louisianna. There is so much corruption in that state (has been for many, many years).

And nothing's changed in the Guard and Reserves in the last 35 years; everything's static. Those darned Guardsmen over in Iraq are just golfing, drinking and socializing with the local women. What a bunch of lazy slackers; those rich chickenhawks will go to any length to avoid doing post-hurricane work.
And airline captains still earn enough every month to buy a brand new cadillac, just like 35 years ago.

If Clownton would have quit playing with damp cigars, watching football and done the job that he was elected to do [defend our country from Bin Ladin], then what would the last 5 years have been like??

So you much feel soooooo much safer with GWB in office. After all he created the TSA and we've all seen just how effective they are in promoting security. The best part is leadership consisting of mostly political hacks and cronies with absolutely no background in security. FEMA is another good example of Bush protecting us. I've always felt the best qualified person to run disaster relief would be someone who has extensive experience leading an organization for owners of race horses. Bin Laden, if he's still alive, is laughing his a$$ off. We should have stayed the course in Afghanistan where we were actually making progress fighting terrorism.

And watch your wallets. The Bush plan to take away the mortgage interest deduction and reduce taxes on dividends and capital gains will not only be the largest tax increase on the middle class in history but it will tank the economy. That will probably be his parting gift to us in 2008 if he's not impeached before then.

What are you talking about? Huey 'the Kingfish' Long cleaned up all corruption in Louisiana back in the 30s. Louisiana's been squeaky clean ever since. TIC ;) (Darn; couldn't find two smiley faces passing money under the table).
