Terrorists exploit the weakest link in the chain. As someboody mentioned on another thread now that the cockpit is secured they are RE-focusing on assembling bombs from seperate carriers in the cabin. Now that we have licked that except for crews how long do you think it will be before one of them buys a uniform off the forums here and walks through security with a fake id with stuff in their exempted carry on?

The jihaadists are revisiting something they tested out back in the mid 90s. Information that was handed to the FBI. Do a search for operation Bojinka(sp)

Odd, spoke to the TSA at SEA and OGG yesterday. Both said the same thing, Flight Crews are exempt and may have all manners of lotions, pastes, and yes, even hair gel with them in their checked baggage. Also understand that our flights out of Southern Cal had the same info passed onto them. And since they didn't make me surrender my Rosemary Mint Detoxifying shampoo from the Mariott, I'm assuming that we flight crews must be exempt, cause this schtuff smells frickin' explosive (kidding!).

Was told by the TSA that the above is true only if you are on duty at the time, not if you are traveling to or from work

Flight crew are not exempt. Another case of an organization so badly run and ineffective, they probably require help to tie their shoes. Probably run by the same clowns running the US operation in Iraq.

what an AH

Anybody hear anything about laptops? I thought I heard a blurb on Headline that they were making all Pax check laptops. What if your airplane is paperless?

I actually commuted out of uniform and they didn't hassle me yesterday, but let's face it, you're gonna get completely random responses from differen't TSA peeps. Be prepared for anything and unless you have A LOT of time on your hands (or some really expensive hand lotion) don't ask to see a supe, it's gonna take a long time to get verification on anything....

Best bet I believe is to show up in Uniform no matter how you're traveling....

Unless something changed overnight, laptops are still ok. They did ban them between the US/UK along with all other carryons as far as I've heard....

No sweat

I'll clear this up. I commuted today in uniform from ORF to STL. Went through security just like a week ago. Laptops, shave kit and all.

Checked baggage isn't the problem. Carryon luggage is the problem. When was the last time you checked your bags when you were operating?

According to the TSA Security Directive I have in my posession distributed through my airline, uniformed crewmembers are exempt from the liquid/gel/paste/lotion/goo restrictions.

No caveat as to "on duty" or "commuting." Just "uniformed crewmembers."

I'd tell you more, but I'd have to kill you right before I was fired and arrested for disseminating secure info.

Oh yeah. Duty free is cool if it's delivered to your plane.

I need that cheap Mexican booze since the paycuts last year. TSA can't smell that stuff.

All you guys whinning about these new restrictions need to get a grip. What a shame that for one freaking day you had to give up your favorite hand lotion. You don't like being treated like a part of the problem? Become part of the solution and become an FFDO.

Maybe we need an SOS from ALPA

I don't have a problem with the FFDO program. In fact, it's probably going to go down in history as one of the best managed federal law enforcement programs ever.

However, pilots with handguns cannot disarm bombs. Either the feds come up with screening solutions that can determine whether makeup is a bomb, or they shut down airline travel until they can guarantee they know the difference between sh*t and shineola.

If I am traveling to or from work and the TSA guy asks me if I am working....I will answer....."yes"

In case anyone wants an updated field report, I commuted out of STL this morning (Saturday), in uniform with all of my gooey goodies. There was no line at the checkpoint, and I received no hassle at either the checkpoint or the gate. Like any other day, but your mileage will vary.

I guess batsky hasn't gotten the 18 or so emails from ALPA and company saying that flight crewmembers in uniform, whether commuting or working a flight, are exempt from the new rubber glove tactics.
