You mean you don't get 3-4 days off in a row with nothing to do realated to work so you can comment about being disrespected, under paid and working for a company with no family values?

Word!! Im at my nice paying desk job right now and I have that pain in my chest because I cant frickin stand it!!!!! All I do is surf FI and aviationinterviews.com The grass is always greener, but it take alot to maintain perfect grass. *(always dies here in AZ) Needless to say, the pay, QOL, being away from home, and all of the other stuff that we dont like about the airlines sometimes....... is worth it to me to have the flying job vs. a regular desk job. (to me that is)

It depends on what you want out of life. Cash, or flying. I'm CLOSE to my flying dream... but the cash I earn in my "day job" would take MANY YEARS of flying to earn what I do now. I still want to fly, and once I'm debt free I will. But I'm doing this with the knowledge that I'll probably never ever earn as much as I do now flying. It's a give / take situation. If money is your goal don't fly. Just my 2 cents.

I agree with CoolSide as well...much like flying...the desk job can sound very attractive for being home every night. A couple things you won't see on the brochure:
-Working late at the office
-Lovely Traffic during commute (For Chicago, add 1 hour for rain delay, 2 hours for snow)
-I did have a Boss who suggested the group put in some time during an occasional weekend or two...he only suggested it once.
-And 9 times outta 10, you're so wiped out, you don't wanna do $hit over the weekend anyway

Yeah, I just don't get the 9-5 thing.

- Get up early 5 days a week, every week FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE.
- 1 hour commute during rush hour traffic
- Work 8 hours
- 1 hour commute during rush hour traffic
- Eat dinner or work out
- Go to bed a few hours after getting home just to do it all over again the next day
- Do all your errands and such while everyone is doing them too (ie. deal with more traffic and crowds) on the weekend.

With only 2 days off a week, I don't know how people ever get anything accomplished. No thanks!

I don't post a lot but on this subject I have something pertinent to add. Flying is great, but there is so much more in the rest of the world that most of you will never know.
I left my captain erj thing and I would do it all over again. I started my own business. I get out of bed when ever I feel like it. (Usually about noon) I go into work whenever I feel like it. (Usually about 3pm) Do I work a lot? Yup, usually till around midnight. But that's my choice and I'm working for my investment, for myself.
I have about 12 employees and they do a great job. I'm not making a killing (less then 50K) but the potential upside is unlimited. Try saying that in aviation.
Oh, and my commute, I love it! 20 minutes each way on my motorcycle, everyday.

I know of a business where they've fine tuned it just like a Chinese factory...you are working EVERY MINUTE of the day. One company even figured out that by paying it's employees to eat breakfast/lunch on property...the company actually SAVED money from the shortened eating periods

Sometimes my friend will call me to "brag" that he has a three day weekend. I feel bad when I tell him I have been off for 4 or five days sometimes.

Actually she's a model for Jenny Craig I met in TX, I introduced her to Pilotchapin and well, you cant see him but she's sitting on him. He was teaching her how to drive that day. LOL
