Wide Open Throttle, Lean Of Peak.

The current issue of Kitplanes has a mythbusting article about operating lean of peak on recips. I haven't flown a recip in so long, that I don't remember how I leaned. :-(

Does anyone have any first hand experience in using a graphic engine monitor and leaning past peak?

If memory serves, Lindberg used this technique to dramatically increase the range of P38's operating in the South Pacific during WWII. But they did it without any sort of engine monitor. Smart man, that Lindberg.

He passed up the pubs of Dublin and landed in Paris. How smart could he have been?

(Kidding. :D )

Lindbergh is a model of leadership. He fought entering WW2 tooth and nail and stood up to the President on the issue, though once the majority decided on war, he supported it with his all.

Lindbergh also used high MP settings with low RPM settings to get the efficiency too. Made shooting down Yamamoto's plane possible, though due to his pre-war isolationist stand, he got little credit for his war contributions.
