And I made it through 40 hours in a Warrior at Garrett, without incident...just enuf for the Private and nothing more, for a reason!

Personally watch a couple of accidents and had to deal with 4 or 5 others, that place is just a magnet.

Nice..I was around for the Citabria crash in summer 04.

Sorry, Garret beats Eagles View. I watch them wipe out half their fleet in one season.
They've crashed at least 5 planes in the past 3 years. 3 pipers, and 2 Citabrias
(I can't believe the guys lived).

Then again, I remember the beautiful arrow that EV geared up, what a tragity.

Yep, i agree, CE... were you there for the one that crashed into the hangar? And i was there for the arrow incident... blame it on the renter. The plane had been in for maintenance, we did a gear swing on it as part of the job, had no problems, the pilot got behind the plane, and flubbed it. Wasn't a pretty sight. There's a reason i didn't fly with Garrett... i heard he sold the flight school to someone, but it still has the same name on the building.
 
Let's see, the citabria (it was a banner tower) blew a can on pickup,
stalled, rolled inverted, hit the side of the hangar about 12' above the
ground, hit the ground, still inverted.... AND THE PILOT WALKED AWAY!!

(I talked to him later, everyone on the scene kept looking for the body)

Another Banner Citabria plunked it at Atlantic City (I forgot the name).
the company had a habbit of flying home with the billboard rolled up
and attached to the OUTSIDE of the airplane. The billboard opened
up and became a parachute. This guy pancaked it in and....you guessed
it, walked away.

One Cherokee was landing in S Jersey, came in hot, had a late rejection of
the landing, hit a wooden fence on the departure end, then hit a car with
the right main gear on the passenger rear window, yawed 180, flew
BACKWARDS for 50 more feet and landed in a field. Walked away.

Another student tweaked another cherokee because he lacked x-wind
training.

Another Banner Citabria had most of the fabric rip off the fuse, inflight.

My personal favorites:
He wouldn't comply with the AD of the Citabrias (you know, the one about
wing spar connections) because they were "restricted" (note, the AD said it applied to ALL CATEGORIES INCLUDING RESTRICTED)

The Warrior main landing gear bolts were sheared, so he went to home depot
to get some more. (there are so many things wrong with that) This was
done on at least 3 occastions since they kept shearing


If I recall correctly, the year before, another company Plunked two J-3-180
and was later chased by NYPD choppers and Airforce AND FBI for violating
airspace. (I got to watch that one....talk about interesting)


What a cursed airport.

What happened is the guy was landing with a nasty crosswind (student and
instructor) and slammed it, pushed the gear through the wing. Not realizing
this, they retracted the gear....CRUNCH, GRIND. and jammed them. On the
next landing, the right main was down enough but the left was tweaked so
when they hit, it skidded to the left off an 8' drop into a ditch, thus, totaling
the plane.

You said you did a gear swing. Did you work for EV or Eastwind (another
cursed company)?

Its a shame. Airport has great location, would be great for all the shore traffic if it were a better place. Brown still alive?

Old Bridge, that's right.

What is the name of that little airport right next to Atlantic city?

As of last year, the old codger was still tickin'. He never bothered me, but
he really ticked off everyone else. Guess i was lucky.

I used to love when he would close half of 32/14 to deter the turbine traffic, so that Columbia couldn't sell fuel.

Its too bad that he sucks so much. Airport could be really nice with some state and federal funding...new taxiway/runway/ramp surfaces, new lighting, localizer in service, and there are airports out there with less traffic that have towers...

Yep, he's still kicking around... i never had a problem with him, either, was always courteous to me. At least he's kept it an airport, not buckled under and sold out, and he wants it to stay that way... unfortunately he's opposed to any more growth, and there's so much behind the scene stuff going on, you never know the full truth. Talked with a guy today, i was supposed to fly, but wind was too high, so we were doing ground, guy comes in asking about a students logbook, and before he left told a tale of how US Air and this other company were going to take over the place, i think he said about 25 years ago, and turn it into an aviation theme park, and bring in some US air traffic. Supposedly, no one had ever done a study on the runways load limits, and the deal went sour. Ya never know.
 
I've never had a personal issue with him, but he is keeping the airport down. Then again, I guess he also protects it from developers.

Which airport are you guys talking about? This sounds like BLM.

I knew more than one CFI who would go to Bader and walk to the casinos.

Good ol' BLM. I've seen B727's there. Talk about pushing the limits.

Old Bridge is West of BLM and East of Robbinsville. It's the airport next to the Englishtown drag strip. The strip is wider, longer and better lit than the airport.
