Flychicaga,
I remember that "near" gear up in the Arrow. I was a student there when that happened, and the student that was on his check ride was in my ground school class. He did indeed fail his check ride. I'm not certain, but wasn't there a 709 ride involved?

we got a little more info today.

very little airframe damage as the flat belly saved the aircraft, no wing damage. only really serious damage was of course to the engines and props.

the pilot spoke with the FAA and there will be no investigation. he simply stated he made a mistake and made no excuses so the case was rather cut and dry. our ground lab instructor knew the guy and i've seen him from here and there, always a nice guy and safe pilot. just goes to show that it really can happen to anyone.

It's 609, not 709

It's a 609-ride, not 709.....not that I have any personal experience with it, but I know some people that have!

I think it's funny that I've never met anyone that has had a 609 ride. Just like I've never met anyone that has flown over gross, or busted mins, or did any other dumb thing in an airplane. It's always their "friends" that do this stuff. I wonder where all these "friends" are, because I sure as hell never seem to bump into them! :D

(I believe you Jeff, I'm just making a joke. :p )

Arrow Gear

Funny that litigation took one of the systems designed to combat the problem out of production;

My instructor once told me he was shooting touch and gos with a pilot he was checking out in an Arrow I. They got close to the runway, started to flare and heard a loud "thunk!" noise under the a/c. They agreed to go around and realized the auto-extend system had saved their bacon...
