I hear the NWA guy calling center during an extremely busy time and using the "How you doing today, we are on a 270 heading, looking for higher and normal speed and what are the rides like at FL370?" All this being transmitted simultaneously with others.

Notice he didn't say "with you"?

Go back to picking on "regional" pilots. Some of them might still think you make sense.

A poster with such a handle should be leading the charge aginst redundant, unnecesary verbiage such as "with you," not mocking those who advocate economy of speech.

Saying "with you" is pretty lame, but not waiting at all before you push the mike button to see if you are interrupting is awful. It's constant, annoying and unprofessional.

The poster thinks the whole thread is unnecessary verbiage. He thinks he responded to a cheap shot by another poster on the forum.

Other unnecessary verbiage I often hear:

"Good morning"
"Thank you"
"Got a score for the playoffs?"
"Adios"

You're tilting a windmills. That's cool until some yahoo slimes MY comrades as if HIS are the paragons of proper R/T technique.

I'd type a proverb about people in glass houses, but I think the point has been made...so it would be contrary to a policy of economy, parsimony, or simplicity.

okay, so I'm reading this, because we all want to sound good. So, I'm taking off from my little uncontrolled field, and call up the local tower, which is 9.8 DME from my airport, and I say, according to the things I have read:

Approach, xyz off of ABC, instruments to zyw, 1800 ft climbing, 350 heading.

Now, the controller knows I'm squaking 1200, cause I'm off an uncontrolled airfield, and when I was last talking to him (her) they said sqauak 1200..

So if I do that, the above, is it correct?

I'm not really sure what you're trying to do here. WHy would you be talking to tower if that's not your destination? If you're talking to tower, why would you call them "approach"? and if you're IFR, why would you be squawking 1200 or conversely, if you're VFR, why would you tell them you're "instruments" (whatever that means; find "instuments" in the AIM)

Are you trying to proceed VFR to the primary airport? are you trying to get VFR flight following? are you trying to pick up an IFR clearance in the air? what are you trying to do? I expect the controller will be at least as confused as me, unless there's something he knows that you're not telling us. .

As long as we are beating the usual horses, IMHO the real tools are the ones who don't say "emergency" when they need ATC priority because they have an emergency.
