Why don't Delta pilots stop the merger?

March 3rd class? Honestly bro, and I'm not being a jerk, but I could see your class being put on hold if something shakes out between now and the time you start.

Interesting times for sure. A little TOO interesting for a dude trying to start class with a new company.

They won't put a class on hold. That implies some degree of forward thinking. Historically, aggressive hiring continues almost right up to the furloughs. Sad, but true.

And actually it is a good business plan for the big 6 to keep LCC's out by using RJ to keep slots filled. The big 6 can keep their prices up and make some money. This is probably not good for consumers, but it is just supply and demand.

True in theory, but just like our right to strike is almost always trumped by Johnny Q. Public's right to uninterrupted low fares. There are many, many more passenger constituents than pilot constituents. This is becomming the nation of voting yourself benefits from the cradle to the grave. Might as well throw in cheap, uninterrupted airfare as a perk you can just vote yourself.

Legacy airlines pissing away the national aviation infrastructure just to hog gates at DCA and LGA, etc, are coming to an end sooner than later. Think there is backlash to "bridges to nowhere"? Legacy birthright to subcontract "RJ's to nowhere" just to stifle competition will die faster than you can say "airport authority", "landing fees" or "national aviation infrastructure."

Its simple math. Its bad for 300 million Americans to lose out just so the big 6 can hold on to their little market specific monopolies. Go ahead and shreak about how its not fair and you were here first, etc. No one is going to care. When real demand that your airline can't or won't cater to starts pushing up against spamming some of the most valueable airports on earth with poorly used capacity, something will give and it won't be legacy birthright that stays.

To be fair, his tune hasn't really changed at all. He's still advocating a single seniority list.
 
They won't put classes on hold, primarily because the DOJ could still turn down a merger, and that may take 7-8 months to determine that. We still are adding new INTL routes from JFK that NWA will not fly to (Amman, Cairo, Tel Aviv, Lagos, Dakar/Cape Town, Lyon, etc etc.....), and we are also getting 6 777LRs from Dec 31st of this year to March 31st of next year (3 months time)--which will mean lots of upgrades etc. I highly doubt NWA will park all of their 68 DC9-40s/50s anytime soon--until they find a replacement (Boeing will start up a new 737NG line for some reason....)--and that will take a few years to drain. Hiring will probably continue for awhile.

Remember, the DOJ could still turn it down, so they will continue to hire in the mean time.

Plenty of military fighter guys leaving 8-10 years of flying service with that kind of time. They've been hired like that for decades...so I guess it's been 'that bad in this industry' for a hell of a long time.
 
"what is this scope, of which you speak"? Funny. While you're educating yourself, don't forget to look up Deltas' history of the infamous, "no furlough clause". IMHO, Don't burn any bridges dude.

Also remember that all of the airlines were at bankruptcy staffing levels up to about a year ago. There was no the fat on the lists as there was in 01. We were already below reasonable staffing levels. Just ask a 88 driver prior to last fall.
There still is not a lot of extra pilots on the list. I believe DAL is keeping about 80 more pilots than they need for summer comfort issues.

Yes sir, well said. These companies don't care about leaving you jobless, they have seats to fill. NW will hire until DL says " OK, NW is no more, we got it from here". What DL does after that is anyone's guess. Business as usual.


Thread starter- don't worry about growth, seats, mergers, consumers' interests and all that s***, just worry about not getting furlough.
