Mesa called me to start a class scheduled for Dec. I was already hired at Express Jet and Im just waiting for January to start. I want to get your feedback. What would you of done? Would you of taken Mesa? Or stayed with Express JEt like I did?

Given the choice between Mesa and XJet, I would have chosen...

(drumroll)

XJet!

Thats like asking if I would rather eat turkey for Thanksgiving, or dog crap.

Mesa, sheesh. I wonder how many xjet pilots have left to go fly for mesa, I can tell you that a bunch of ex mesa pilots are now flying for xjet though.

Call Xjet back and take the class. Call MESA the day before class and tell them they are a shady outfit and their CEO sucks, pay sucks, and you'll be going to XJET instead. MESA is a bridge you can burn. Heck, I'd go back to primary flight instruction any day before crawling to MESA. I don't want to start a flame, just my opinion of the company, not the pilots..

P.S. My advise sucks. Great Disclaimer!

I agree 100% you have given this individual great advice...definetly go to Xjet or hate your life more than any other pilot

The advice given here is probably not your best source of information.

Take the MESA class you do not know what the future holds. You may regret burning your bridges when MESA is the biggest regional around.
It is very unlikely that you would ever get a balanced view on what sort of company they are unless you speak directly to some of their pilots.

Remember it is fashionable to bash a company. Most here are uninformed and just follow each other with no real argument.

I know pilots that came from Mesa. I can't believe some of what I hear. Is it true you don't get paid for mechanical cancelations? Or if you can't get into an airport because of wx you don"t get paid? If this is true, that sure pressures pilots who have kids to feed to do what ought not be done.

I'm shocked that you hav'nt done enough research to already know the answer.

With that in mind, go MESA. Have a good time with your 8 days off, 8 hr airport standby and your $1.00 per diem. Nothin bad to say about the pilots at MESA, they do as good a job as any of us, but holy $hit do they have it rough. I have plenty of freinds there to know what I'm talkin about.

Really though, come to XJT.

One in the hand is worth two in the bush. That being said...

If Mesa has no training contract, and if they pay during training, what is to stop you from beginning class there and if you don't like it, leaving for XJT when that class begins?

I'm not advocating doing this - I personally don't think its professional, but if its in your best interest to burn that bridge for the next good thing, more power to you. While XJT's new contract is not what some of the talking heads on this board claimed it would be, its FAR better than Mesa's contract, and even Mesa guys would tell you that. Besides, CAL isn't going anywhere whereas Mesa has UAL and US codeshares and both aren't in real good shape right now.

Good luck with your decision.

Mesa? Give me a break, Why are your standards so low? I never even considered mesa when looking for a regional. My standards are high, ACA, Skywest, ASA, Comair, Expressjet..............Mesa is looked down upon as a stepping stone to another major regional like Expressjet

Talk To Somebody From Mesa Take The First Class You Are Offered.

I've worked for them (Mesa). Have recently flown with guys who left Mesa. Great group of people BUTT...go with XJT. I have friends at both places...I stand by my recommendation of XJT.
