Which major will be first to hire again?

Which major do you think will start hiring pilot first, again? In other words, when all furloughs are back when can we expect them to start off-the-street hiring?

My guess would be CAL.

Sorry, wasn't exactly clear. I mean majors with furloughed pilots like DAL, NWA, CAL UAL, etc.....

My bet is on NWA (2006-2007), followed by DAL (2007-2008), followed by UAL andf AMR (2008-2010). Numbers in parentheses are the year they start hiring.
This is a SWAG on my part; things can change at the drop of a dime in this business. If any of the airlines significantly increase block hours in response to the LCCs, those guesses are out the window.

Most of the CAL guys I talk to seem to think they could be hiring by early 2005. Where they come from seems to be up to some debate depending on how those at ExpressJet who are still covered by the flow through are integrated in. But in any case, it sounds like there will be new pilots on the CAL seniority list at some point in 2005.

XJT is NOT a way to CAL. In fact, the two corporations are going out of their way to give the employees the impression that they are two separate companies.

The flow-through ended with the IPO and only a lucky few were given CAL interviews and only a small percentage of those were offered jobs.

The best way to work for CAL is to avoid XJT.

Of the gloabal carriers, my crystal ball predicts CAL, since they are the healthiest. Followed by NWA. Earliest would be 2007.

With the increased productivity and bigger furloughs at AA and UAL, expect much longer.

Expect competitive mins to be 5,000 121 Jet PIC, a type-rating in something they fly, Space Shuttle experience (or a lunar landing,) female, experience as a pro-athlete (Olympics preferred,) volunteer work (Peace Corps,) Nobel Prize, Mensa member, PhD, and porn star looks.

Along with at least 10 LOR's from Board Members.

(Competetive mins will be much lower for those who've paid-for-training at some point in their careers -- they're more "motivated.")

Who has the most furloughed pilots / per centage of furloughs to pilots? Who is in negotiations? Who is in best position to use furloughees as hostages? Who is in a big retirment window? Many variables but had a pilot at a major once tell me...hire till you furlough...furlough till you hire...hopefully each cycle will gain some seniority and eventually get enough pad to avoid a furlough.

Current Furloughs:

AA=2471(including the March 3rd gang)
UAL=1863
USAIR=1839
DELTA=1265
NW=918
CAL=637

I am not sure how up-to-date these are, but they should be fairly accurate as of Nov. 2003. I think they have all stopped furloughs for now (except AA) but I could be wrong on this. The APA has negotiated 3754 furloughs (along with the huge pay cuts).

Someone was mentioning in a earlier post FedEx. I didn't think they had anyone on furlough...

There are no furloughees at FedEx. The original question was who would be the first major to hire, and then was modified to specify those with furloughed pilots. The FedEx answer was more of a reminder that they are a major and getting ready to hire (hopefully) soon. It was a tongue in cheek reply, I would think.
