I tried searching this topic, but all the threads discussing this are several years old and the pilot hiring landscape has changed drastically since then.

I'm curious where Ameriflight pilots have ended up in the past year or so? Is it common to move from a 135 op like Ameriflight to a fractional? What about LCC/Nationals? I know a lot of pilots go 135 to regional, which is a route I want to avoid.

I've seen them go everywhere. Regionals, Majors, Fractionals. Some got a job flying people around privately.

It ll depends the route you want to go, who's looking, timing, & how patient you are.

Granted its not everyday Ameriflight pilots get on to a major or Fractional.

In the past 6 months or so I've seen a lot leave for better life's, or what they think is a better life.

I am not an "Amflighter" but I have many friends from there. Here is a short list:

One (EMB-120 Captain) left for EMB-120 Captain for a NASCAR team and is now with Flexjet.

One (EMB-120 Captain) left for F/O @ NetJets

One (Metro Captain) left for F/O @ Flexjet

One (EMB-120 Captain) left for F/O @ Alaska

Two (EMB-120 Captains) left for F/O @ Southwest

One (EMB-120 F/O) left for F/O @ Southwest

This is just in the last 2-3 years. Pretty good if you ask me.

Good stuff, I always thought Ameriflight pilots ended up in the left seat of a Dodge Colt :)

Just from Texas this year we had one (E120 Capt) go to Alaska, one (E120 FO) to Republic, one metro captain to FlexJet, two metro captains to private gigs and one more metro captain leaving in about a month to go to a company that flies overseas contract stuff (I don't remember the name.)

Since I have been here I have seen guys go to every major that has been hiring (except FedEx.)

Where do AMF pilots go?

They go to ONT, OAK, BUR, CVG, PDX, DFW, SEA ... only kidding ...

Buff,

You may not have been around to see Jeff M. (SEA) go to FedEx, or Rusty (aka ... from SEA) go to Casino, onward to Fedex, or, etc., etc., etc ...

I personally know AMF guys 'n gals that left AMF for UAL, AAL, USAir/Cactus, NWA, DAL, SWA, AirTran, DHL (ABX/AStar), UPS plus every non-sked, sked big-airplane cargo, regionals (now called majors) and lots of good smaller gigs (like mine ... :). I hear that the current route of advancement includes the mojor/legacy carriers, the Frax and a number of charter operators. I think the "regionals" are starting to feel the pain of their making.

As long as AMF upholds it's past standards, it will still provide GREAT opportunity for growth in our profession.

i met one, non college degree, at AA. He was a F-100 Capt (yes that was a while ago)

no degree, did I mention that?

They also end up in Burns, Rocks Springs, Elko, Vernal, Kingman and some other wonderful "gardenspots"

I do know a few that should go to AA though.

Thats the question we are all asking ourselves where can I go from here. Two that I know of were recently turned down by SWA, but they have hit the brakes on hiring. One of them got on with Continental Airline soon after, which is great for him as he wanted to live in Houston. It seems that after 2-3 years at AMF you can go to some pretty good gigs. The people that go to regionals after AMF are the ones that can't or don't want to handle the schedule(long hours) after a year, if they make it that long.

The ones that wait it out have a lot of options, although most want SWA, UPS or Fedex. The problem with the next step is how you handle the question, "I've seen you fly a metro single pilot, impressive, but can you handle a second crew member and an FMS?"

It's the lack of 121, crew experience and complex aircraft that is lacking from an AMF pilot's resume, that is a hiring impediment. Those with training captain experience, or ability to explain how they can play well with others and learn how to fly a complex aircraft well, get hired to bigger and better things.

I would like to second absolutely everything that Refuge has said. If you pay your dues at AMF you will make contacts, develop good leadership/captain skills, and learn how to REALLY fly (with the help of the Metroliner).
The pilots I have known have gone to: UPS, SWA, Flexjet, Alaska, Netjets, Capital, Southern, Nascar, and part 91 gigs. And two to Cathay Pacific. I would say that Ameriflight pilots have a pretty good track record for post-AMF employment.
