If I was hired at United and flying out of Houston, what should I expect for pay, schedule, etc, for the first year? What do you pay for medical for a family of four? I live in the DFW area. Would the commute be an easy one? Is the retirement 16% contribution based on Gross pay for the year? This newbie needs good intel. Thanks for the info...

737 long call reserve
13 hour callout notice
12 or 13 days off
73 hr/mo
$66.10/hr
Payday twice a month
16% based on earnings into B fund each payday
=$67k for the year

May get more pay for many things such as,
- Per diem when on a trip
- excess conversions to short call
- flying a lot
- excess moving days off
- profit sharing

Thanks, this is good information. Can you explain long call vs short call. I have no 121 experience. Thx

Long call is you answer phone 24 hours a day. When called you can be asked to show for an assigned trip in not less than 13 hours. You're released from on call to rest at the time of assignment.

Short call is a 14 hour period to answer phone with 10 hours not, each day. If called you can be asked to be at airport within 2 1/2 hours to be off the gate within 3 1/2 hours. Your FAA duty day starts at the beginning of the on call period.

That's the basics. Usually they'll give you more time. For instance you're on short call and they'll call you at 1600 and assign you an 8 am show and release you from being on call until then. There are many variations to what they can do (to say the least).

Since you are a half-winger you will not have to pay for a single drink or meal with the Cpt present.

Wait......you'll be in IAH - nevermind.
