By this afternoon, there'll be one fewer brand among U.S. airlines. That's because Republic Airways is set to announce the name for its new "unified" brand that will represent its airline portfolio, which includes Frontier, Midwest and at least part of its own regional Republic-branded operation.
The Indianapolis Star writes "an announcement is expected at mid-day of the logo and marketing strategy, including the name of a new airline to be formed by the merger of Midwest and Frontier airlines purchased in 2009 by Republic's holding company. News conferences and employee events are planned at noon in both Milwaukee -- the home of Midwest -- and Denver -- the home of Frontier. And then a party has been scheduled in the evening for Republic's employees in Indianapolis."
The Denver Post adds "Republic Airways officials said there will be one brand for Frontier, Midwest and Republic airlines. The Indianapolis-based holding company has worked to integrate Frontier and Midwest with its Republic Airlines operations since buying them last year."
The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel says "don't be surprised if it's called something other than Midwest Airlines. … [A]dvertising and marketing experts say the Midwest name has little brand value any longer, because of service reductions and the loss of extra-wide seats and other characteristics that used to distinguish Midwest from other airlines. Also, the Midwest name, with its regional roots, is too restrictive for a combined airline that will include major operations beyond the Midwest hubs of Milwaukee and Kansas City, said Jay Sorensen, a former Midwest marketing manager."
Check back at this post later today to see what name is revealed at the press conference.

Do you guys notice that Airlines that own regionals do not have them flying for any other airline. IE AE, Comair and so on. The days are numbered for that place, I cannot wait to see them losing their regional contracts one by one.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhh.... Hope is an amazing thing.
