Mississippi and Georgia

I have lived in Mississippi for about 3.5 months now, never in my life would I have thought that I would look foward to re-locating to Detroit. The drivers SUCK, the roads SUCK, everything SUCKS!

As for Georgia, I lived there for the better part of 10 years and I never felt so restricted. If you couldn't find anything to do in ATL, you were screwed, because there ain't SH!T left anywhere in the state. I always felt like I was in the biggest rut when I lived there.

People always characterize southerners as being "slow", but NY really has them beat on that level. Everytime I have been there I have ad to deal with at least one glorious shining example of intellectiual stupidity.

Oklahoma and New Mexico

Oklahoma. Flat and treeless. Fat, toothless, greasy, chainsmoking nasty-assed women. Unmercifully hot in the summer, ridiculously windy and cold in the winter, but no snow, just paralyzing ice storms.
I lived there for 7 1/2 years. Don't forget about the provincial mind-set of a great many of the people. On the other hand, Oklahoma is a great place to learn how to fly, for all the reasons mentioned except for the fat, toothless, greasy, chainsmoking, nasty-assed women. I had gotten very used to the place, but I sure didn't miss it when I left.

I did not care especially for New Mexico. Some of the scenery was breathtaking, especially around Shiprock. But the above-referenced provincial mindset of the people got to me.

The drivers in Northern California scared me from time to time. Other than that, I liked my brief stay in California. I never cared much for the heat and humidity in Florida during the summertime. But being able to watch the Shuttle launches from outside of my apartment was first-rate in every way.

New Colorado "drivers"

I'm . . sick of all those Texans who come to Colorado and drive like sh!t on mountain roads.
And on the metropolitan streets as well, along with their California brethren. These new Coloradoans have raised being cut off in traffic to an art form.

Regarding Texans:

I've been in the Dal-worth Metroplex for about six years now, and I have a question: why do Texans cruising on a highway take a turn signal as a personal challenge? All I want to do is change lanes...I turn on the blinker, and the yahoo who's been riding comfortably at my seven o'clock position and three hundred yards for the last ten miles says "oh no you don't!" and darts forward to block me!

Am I the only person who's noticed this?

I couldn't have said it better myself. Just yesterday I was cut off on Parker road (busy rush-hour street in the Denver area) by at least 2 massive dually pick-ups with Texas license plates and various Mercedes and BWM's from California! Still, I'm a transplant from the flat land. Bobbysamd's opinion carries much more weight.

Skyking

Most folks who pull stunts like that and cut people off, obviously have never done that to me!

Go ahead punk... keep honking I'm reloading!

:D :D :D

CHP Looks at Cutting 10 Percent of Employees

CHP Looks at Cutting 10 Percent of Employees

The California Highway Patrol has been told it may need to cut 10 percent of its workforce to help make up the state budget shortfall. Letters went out Tuesday informing employees they could face layoffs.

The letters will go to CHP commanders. The commanders will then personally hand the letters to employees. "You have a right to know in advance that you may be affected by layoffs if they turn out to be unavoidable," the letter reads, in part. "This notice is being sent to allow you to be prepared for the possible layoffs and to be able to consider other available opportunities."

Ten percent of the workforce equals 836 employees. The the proposed layoffs would include 469 uniformed officers and 367 non-uniformed employees. CHP Commissioner D.O. "Spike" Helmick said some of the cuts could come through attrition.

Because seniority will be a consideration in the layoffs, cadets who just spent 27 weeks in the academy could be the first to go. "They're very worried. You know, they're moving all over the state starting a new life, renting, buying new homes," said Helmick. "They have to get this letter in the mail. It's troubling."

The proposed layoffs are part of a plan to save $855 million by laying off as many as 10,000 state employees. If the plan is adopted, more than 70 of the state's 150 agencies will be affected.

Officials emphasize that the layoffs are still far from a certainty. The ultimate fate of the workers will not be know until a new state budget is completed, a process that could take several more months.

-----------------------------------------------------
Now from 1998 to 2002 the state budget grew from $65 billion to $92.5 billion. That 40% of budget growth is exactly where I'd look to make first cuts.

worst state

Cross between Oklahoma and Kentucky. KY, need I say more!

Best states TEXAS and california. Most beautiful girls on the planet reside in southern california and northern texas around DFW. No one EVER has disagreed, its just a fact. All northwest good too. Florida not bad, too many bad drivers (old people) and Wiskey Tango.

Colorado not bad, but for all those that let Texans get under your skin i.e. Coloradians, they just do it to piss you off (see above), most of them could care less. As For DONT MESS WITH TEXAS. IT is a litter program, nothing else.

Typhoon: Yes the drivers there do that, they are A holes.

see ya
Squirreldog

P.S. You know why texas panhandle so windy? Oklahoma sucks:)

Attending college out west in general has been pretty cool. Not much of a night life in Utah, and the religious bias forced on people here is overwhelming. But if you get past the people, (which I haven’t been able to) it’s a beautiful state. It was fun learning to fly in the mountains.

My fiancé’s family is from Wyoming and I've flown a Katana & 172 down to see her while in college at UVSC. Let me tell you; the **CENSORED****CENSORED****CENSORED****CENSORED**ing wind at KRKS is outrageous. I've not landed once there without a 20knot gusting to 20something wind ever. It's a cool place if you can get past the wind, and local uneducated scum. I don’t necessarily hate the place; I just don’t care for it.

Texas is my favorite, but I'm a native so I'm Bias. I would prefer a few months of hot summer in the south, opposed to long cold winters. I like hot weather really. I’ve got a CFI position lined up at DWH starting in September.

Hopeless_in_GA, I just spoke with a CHP officer at the CHP booth at the San Diego County Fair (formerly the Del Mar Fair for the information of you California expatriates out there)- he told me that the layoff order was rescinded- so hopefully that should mean that many less cut-offs and similar road-rage problems to be concerned about.
To you Atlanta folk, on one hand, I grew up in Los Angeles and that major gridlock, which is getting worse all the time- have any of you ever been there? On the other hand, I was visiting Atlanta not long ago- I happened to be northbound on the east side of the 285 loop, took one look at the southbound (and this was 10:30 a.m.), and I couldn't believe the miles of gridlock

"Mercy sakes alive, looks like we got us a CONVOY!"

I live just south of Los Angeles. I simultaneously love and hate the great state of California.

I love New York, North Carolina, Nevada, Oregon, Washington.

I hate Florida, Oklahoma, West Virginia, and Indiana.

**CENSORED****CENSORED****CENSORED****CENSORED**, I live right outside of Boston and I didn't think so many guys would rip on Massachusetts. If you only ripped on the women and traffic I'd generally understand. Lots of cold women (but loose after a few drinks) and when I hear about people in other areas complain about the traffic and then I go/visit there, I wonder what heck (f-u- -k) they're talking about.....!!!!!

However, although the taxes aren't great, the beaches down on The Rock and The Vineyard are good and the skiing up north is good every other year. Good hiking there too. As well, the museums and history are great. Many intelligent, keep track of current events type of people too. Plus the 2002 Super Bowl Champion Patriots!

I'm originally from Tennessee and have lived elsewhere so I feel like I've got a decent background on many states. I really like northern Cali. Much different than the rest of the state.

I'll have to throw Jersey under the bus like a few others here. The rural areas are pretty nice but other than that, the place is horrible. Arkansas certainly brings up the rear as well. I went to one of my uncles bomb group reunions there a couple years ago. Down in El Dorado. First off, flying into Little Rock, it looked like a nuclear halocaust until you were within 5 minutes of the airport. Just nothing. Brown land. On the drive down to El Dorado it was ok, but the drive back a few days later, there were dead armadillos all over the friggin place. Not exactly a large population of people either. Gave me the impression there were more armadillos than people in that state.

Went out to Colorado a few weeks ago and had a great time. Thanks to the many people on this board that gave me advice on places to go. Beautiful scenery, decent cost of living based on what I saw and very nice people. Bunch of wimps at Coors Field but that's ok. The ushers there would get killed at Fenway or Yankee Stadium.

Father in Minnesota as well as my g/f being from there. If it wasn't so cold in the winter, that would be a nice place to live. Nice people, good cost of living.

My .02$.

Mr. I

If I could live and fly anywhere west of DEN I would be a happy man. You can keep the lousy drivers, uneducated, incompetent and totally lazy people who infest here in Atlanta.

Just a comment on traffic and bad drivers...

My sister and her husband lived in the Los Angeles area for 4 years, and both had 1-2 hour commutes every day to work with 8 lanes of traffic in each direction. Then she and her husband moved to Florida for career purposes, and both claim that the drivers in Florida, where the traffic is a tiny fraction as dense as LA, are 50 times worse.

Jersey is simply a F'n $hithole....all I have to say is "ROUTE 17"... ...anyone operating around KTEB knows what I mean...

And Texas...flat and ugly, and you gotta love the 14 million WalMarts there....how convenient..:(
