That's actually pretty funny that someone would make that dumb statement while on a layover in Lagos. I've never understood why General and SOME overly inflated egos at Delta think that they are so cool because they layover in some of Africa's finest "garden spots." I would take a layover in Lubbock rather than Lagos ANY day! I don't care what compound you get to "hold-up" in Lagos, you can still lose your life very easily on the drive to and from the airport!

SW pilots get paid as well or better to layover for 12 hours in CONUS and Delta pilots have to fly 13-15 hours away to layover in 3rd world countries. I must be missing the comparitive advantage of the latter. Hmmmmm... Lubbock sounds nice!

Just my opinion, which doesn't matter, after being in many 3rd world countries and other "garden spots" for layovers. By the way, I know many Delta pilots that are very humble and great people; That is why I put "SOME" in my statement.

Do you really think every one of the 12,000+ pilots fly to Africa at Delta? I guess you do...???? I don't have to, and won't. Junior guys or guys on reserve may have to, but rarely by choice, although I have heard some people like it. Lagos, now that is different. The hotel there is supposedly really nice (the nicest in Town for whatever that means) for security reasons, and almost all of the INTL airlines also stay there. So, throw a bunch of junior stews and pilots together at a fairly nice hotel with barb wire fences that are 12 feet high, and you have yourself a party I guess. Apparently the place has 5 different restaurants, a nice pool area, and airline crews get big discounts. I heard it was a 3 day trip worth 29 hours (2 legs boys)---so that could be nice.

I happen to enjoy Europe, and enjoy the layovers over and over again. I plan out where I want to go after my nap and workout, and then I go explore and find great restaurants and watch the locals while drinking a tasty brew. I leave feeling like I actually got paid to see something new and taste a great meal I can't get here in the States. At the same time, I get to enjoy a wonderful ice cream sundae while looking at Greenland pass by. It never gets old. But, you will feel older doing 5 or 6 legs a day around Texas. Enjoy AMA and HRL.

I didn't have a drinking problem before all this. I do now! My problem is that good beer went from $2 to $6.

On the bright side - I've lost 5 pounds in the past couple months!

Do you guys get up at 3am? If we do in Europe, we also go to bed at 4pm in the States, right? I get about 8 hours of good sleep at the hotel the night before, and then also get 3 hours during the flight, in the rest seat. The key for me is to take only a 2-3 hour nap upon arrival, and then get up and work out. A good walk and good dinner afterwards also helps. When do you guys catch a bit of shut eye? During approach on your 4th leg of the day into MAF? Sleepy Texas town....

BTW, the sudaes are always good.

Hey GL, do us all a favor and never, ever post that drivel again. I went to DQ today and had an ice cream sundae. The best part about it was that my wife and kids were there! Being with my wife and kids never gets old!! I didn't even have to wear a double-breasted gold-buttoned suit. I had shorts, flipflops and a Texas Tech t-shirt on. Didn't have to stop by JFK on the way home either. That never gets old!! Later, I stopped by a local brewery I've never been to. It was nice enjoying a brew with the family while watching the locals. My kids even ran into some friends from school. I got to watch and listen to them laugh and play together. My airplane is really small, but it would hurt if I taxiied it over your foot!! My neighbors aren't impressed with my tiny little 737. They wonder when I am gonna go to the "majors" and fly "big" airplanes. But, they do wonder if I have a job because I'm home so much. That never gets old!!
I can't imagine how old I would feel if I had to go to Greenland to get an ice cream sundae and a beer from Paris, but I bet my freinds and neighbors would think I was really, really, super-duper, duper cool!!
