Now this is all second hand info, but I was at Safety Stand Down this year and had lunch with a Bombardier test pilot. He specifically works on the Global line, but had a lot of info to share. I asked about the EICAS system on the 60 to complete the cockpit upgrade, and he said that it would require a total recertification on the aircraft as a result and as a result a lot of time and money. There was no real concern about it conflicting with the 300 (which I currently fly) but more of a cost issue than anything. EICAS requires a lot more addition computing power than I thought. Including new FADEC's and much more monitoring than is capable in the 60. He did mention that the Global would get a new cockpit and possibly go fly by wire at some point. The new cockpit is nearly approved (internally) but is still at least 3-5 years away. Things obviously move slow up in Montreal. Above and beyond anything else I hope that they get the strike thing figured out. We had our plane in an inspection during that whole deal out in ICT and it was a pain.
You are correct.Doesn't the -40 mod for the Falcon 50 by Garrett put EICAS on board? I believe it does. That entire mod (if you do the whole thing) turns a straight 50 into a 50EX. That did not require a total recert. As a matter of fact, that entire Garrett mod is a SB!!
The LR 69 next year? Looks as though they are being a bit conservative right now. They did introduce the 300, Global, and 45 within 3 years in the late 90s-all clean sheet designs and BIG sellers as the best performers in each class.I'll answer my own question "what will Learjet do" with a big... NOTHING
