What is going on at Avantair?

My friend got hire two months ago at Avantair.
A month has gone by since he finish his training and he still home waiting for the company to call him to start his IOE.

I heard things are not going well there any info.

This I have to agree with Noodle d**K. HAHA! I made a funny. Anyway, I sat for about 1 month and a week before they sent me out. It's all about how quickly they get your background check. Tell your friend not to freak out, yet.

Yes, he is. i know I was. Obviously not perdiem, but hey. Getting a check while you sit all day and scratch your balls is not such a bad thing. Well in my case my wife does me the favor :blush: OH YEAH!! A little more to the left...there ya go!

Yea, Its not uncommon for guys to sit for a few weeks before flying the line. They had me come into St. Pete and observe and help the training dept for a few days. Count your stars that you are at home! Have your friend call and see what the hold up is. Most of the time like was said before its just a matter of the background check not getting finished.

On the flip side we are very heavy on FOs right now. So far, out of the last three tours I have sat at home for 2 1/2 weeks..... When we go to the true 7/7 I think it will be a little better.

Hey we lived in St Pete for 3 yrs! Nice place. Do the Avantair pilots think the NJ pilots had anything to do with getting their company to move to the 7&7? Just curious....but a group does have more support when they can say the schedule is an industry standard. I firmly believe in starting with smaller goals while you push forward.

I have no problem sharing credit. OK so the NJ pilots helped the CS pilots who in turn helped the Avantair pilots. Bravo! Doesn't that support what I always say? That the more the pilots stand together, the easier it will be to make improvements industry-wide? The larger companies do set the industry standard, just by virtue of their numbers. The NJ pilots appreciate the thanks they've gotten for doing their part, and encourage others who do the same. Kudos to every group fighting to raise the standard in the industry. Good Luck to those at the table now, and those collecting cards!

I waited 6 weeks - no problem there and I got paid the whole time. There could be many reasons that he has not started yet. From what I understand, a few people are waiting for their background checks to be completed and once all the paperwork is returned to Avantair and is reviewed they will start asap.

yes, tell your friend not to sweat the down time ....nothing unusual ...in fact some at NetJets have waited 5 months after training! With Avantair, 3-5 weeks is lately the case. More IOE Captains coming though, so ...enjoy the rest while ya can!

You know, for someone that's only been here since June, you have awfully strong opinions. Did they sprinkle too much kool-aid in those burgers you were grilling in your room at PBI during training??

Actually what I said was---OK so the NJ pilots helped the CS pilots who in turn helped the Avantair pilots. It was meant as a general comment, and applied more to their raise. I still maintain that supporting one another in their efforts just makes sense. Aside from being the decent thing to do. Granted, some are better at that than others....

The orginal question that you asked was if we were praising NJ pilots for our 7/7 schedule, and the answer is 'no'. That's not a shot against NJ at all. Actually, my comment about CS was tongue-in-cheek. The 7/7 schedule came about after the new DO conducted conference calls with the pilots and solicited input from all of us. It was actually our own doing and no one said "well, this is how NJ and CS do it". Beleive it or not, we are capable of handling our situation on our own.

That hardly amounted to suggesting any "praising" of NJ pilots was taking place. Whether or not any of the Avantair pilots specifically mentioned NJ and/or CS being on the 7&7 is irrelevant. The company was fully aware of the movement in the industry, and of the competition 's arrangements with their pilots. That basic info, no doubt, was taken into consideration. To deny that would seem rather uninformed, if not downright churlish.

I noticed you ignored the Spokesman question. Does that mean you concede that others may not share your opinion?

I have no doubt that the pilots of Avantair, or any other company, are fully capable of standing up for themselves and demanding the compensation and QOL they deserve by virtue of having earned it. If I didn't think it was possible, I wouldn't advocate that pilots take that action. Congratulations on the advent of the new schedule---however it was achieved.

Again, get off your high horse! I concede nothing to you and your crusade. If you read my previous post, I said I welcome the opinon of my fellow pilots. As for the spokesman question, you ignored the same question when asked to you. We both know that we were not elected to anything as neither one of us are union members. I am speaking from my experience and personal contacts at my company and I have yet to meet anyone who admits to wanting a union. Should the atmosphere change to the point where we collectively decide that we need a union, I will gladly support it but we spoke loudly when we decided not to turn in our union cards. Funny how you don't acknowlegde our collective voice in that situation.

This statement contradicts your original question. We don't need to look outside our company to know that working more than 7 days straight is too much. You are grasping at straws to get someone here to give credit where it's not due. Again, no offense to anyone who actually works at NJ.
