Well- to answer that honestly-For selfish reasons I wish USAIr had tanked- Swa and Air tran + to a lesser extent jblu would have benefitted bc they were in a position financially to do something- where would that have left america west after the fallout? stuck competing head to head in PHX and Vegas with the strongest carrier in the country who just stronger- It's hard to see how AWA would have benefitted much if USAIr were to tank and the free market took over.
But just bc awa benefitted from the rescue doesn't mean that the easties were right in what they've done.
Both USAIr and awa would have been in better spots from a pilot side if the east hadn't lost such perspective
