I need to get on with ASA or Comair, can anyone tell me what it takes?? I am already a F/O on a 727 with a part 121 carrier, I love the easy commuting from here in FL, for either of those airlines. I keep emailing my resume' but no response. Anyone got any ideas??

I'm sure that if you just explain it to them the way you did to us, that they will hire you right away. They're actually looking for someone that wants an easy commute from FL. I'm not sure why you're having a problem.

If you only have 1100 hours, you don't meet the Comair mins for getting hired. Better slave away on the "B727" for a couple more months and build some time. Better than using an Aztec for multi anyday.

Why would you want to leave a 727 job for the regionals anyway? Do you fly for a cargo or supplimental right now? More than likely your current pay is probably more than the regionals.

Its all about QOL for me, and this place doesn't have it. You are gone most of the time, no schedule, 24/7 they can call u up, etc. low pay too! Yes it is an unsched night cargo op. I will take low pay at a commuter to have a schedule and a senority system, there is none here. Plus u get to work with only the aviation industy's finest!

Do you work at CAT?

I'll take ure 727 non-sched job RIGHT now!

....Of course, then I'll get there and complain about pay, work rules, Fed Ex and QOL...

Sh!t, nevermind, I'll stay here...

Thanks for the productive input

I was just hoping for some ASA or Comair guys to shed a little light on how they got a call, nevermind my reasons for wanting to be there, but to each his own. Did you have Letters of recomendation? Did you Fax in a fancy cover letter?? etc. I know not to call, I am sure they hate that. There has got to be some little thing I can do to show them how much I want to work there.

My resume and cover letter were faxed in. I got a call for a phone screening less than a week later, and the application the next day (today) via FedEx. I'm in the process of getting the application together now. I have 2200 total time with 1400 in Citations, some PIC. Best of luck.

Boomlrd,

It would help if you know someone. However, I was hired and didn't know anyone. I had 2200hrs tt. We have about 1700 pilots now and you probably know somebody here. I would see if you can find someone from where you went to school or where you did your flight training.

Good Luck,

Not to hijack to thread, but how does somebody get a 727 job with 1000 hrs or less? Looks like you did your networking! All the best with ASA!

I can only make one guess....and it includes 3 letters....PFT. If that is the case, hopefully ASA will frown on it...but who knows.

ASA is not hiring many pilots right now. My guess the best way to get hired at ASA is to have a Delta seniority number. The next best way is to have a connection with one of the connected power players in the airline ( seems like Interns and folks in Ops who made the right friends have an "in" with lower times )

However, with only 1,000 hours it is going to be tough - sorry - wish that I could give you better news. The airline is awash with resumes from furloughed mainline pilots and a lot of good guys from the fallout at the US Air regionals.

Heck, a former associate of mine with several type ratings, at least 1,000 part 121 PIC, and a letter of rec. from the Senior Chief Pilot was recently turned down for a job.

But, keep sending in your stuff. They seem to be fairly objective in their selections and being "connected" obviously doesn't mean what it used to. It has to be the right connection and even most of the Captains here don't have that.... Heck, if I had to apply to ASA right now with over 1,000 121 PIC they might not pick me, the job market is nuts right now.

A friend of mine was offered a position after interviewing back in August. He had around 2100 hours and 500 multi..mostly in turboprops. According to aviationinterviews.com most of the folks being hired are over 2000TT and 500ME as well....with 135 or 121 time. At the moment it seems that you need well above the website minimums to get in the door with ASA. I'm getting ready to return my completed application tomorrow. I have my fingers crossed.

Yea, guess I will just keep trying

I know its tough to get in there right now, lots of guys on here seem to think its one of the better regionals so I am sure its pretty competitive. Thanks again for your input.

Oh yea, by the way for those of you who love to say "PFT", I got three letters for you, its called "WIA", look it up, its a government grant program that will get you type ratings or whatever you need, thats how I got in. Takes alot of research to find these government deals, but if its available and I can have it for free, why not? Oh yea, and I am not a minority, anyone can do this!

Thanks again to the guys and gals on here with something legit to say!

PEACE!

ASA Interview

2000 and 500 seems to be a good mix for ASA. I was sending in my stuff for almost a year and once I got over 500me I got a call within a week of sending my resume. I sent via fax and email, as well as an internal LOR.

Good luck!

Yeah..I don't know what the ratio of applicants being interviewed is to the number being hired, but I got the call for a phone screening 6 days after sending the resume via fax. After the phone screening the application arrived next day via FedEx.

How many per month is ASA hiring now? Last I heard was 20/month for the forseeable future, but that was a few months ago before all he!! broke loose.

If those 25 RJs are indeed coming next year, we should be hiring for a good portion of next year. Along with the fact that we are actually having Capts move onto Air Tran and such.

We had slowed to ten amonth for two months, but now are ramping up for 20 a month again next month. They are limiting the number of Delta guys now, because they dont want a mass exit when they get called back. Many guys getting hired with @ 1,500 hours now. Competitive mins are dropping again.
