Just wondering. In the wee stages of my flying career, still working viciously on my private, just wondering what their minimum pre-reqs to be able to fly are? Currently a manager for them, but would like to fly for them if possible. Thanks

if you're young enough join the military and fly. FedEx hires over 90% Navy, Marines, USAF. AG. They don't like civilians but they do hire a few here and there.

Good Luck

You will need a college degree and a high degree of luck and timing. Also helpful 17 inside recommendations, and 2 lunar landings. Back in the old days they hired 25 year olds out of ERAU and guys without college degrees. Now they hire military pilots because they can, just like DAL and UAL back in their glory days.

well, im 4 hours from finishing my bachelors degree, and personally know Bill Logue-well, his brother John. Had dinner with Bill a few times, play golf with his brother quite a bit.

just didnt know if i should keep training on the side or not if there wasnt any chance.

Im 27, is it too late for the military at that age?

Why bother with the military just to get into Fedex? Sounds like you've already have a great connection with the company. They do hire more military than civilian, but I know plenty of civilian folks that have been hired there.

Only join the military if you're interested in the military... don't join if you're only using it soley as a stepping stone.

RUNNINHORN,

Here is the link to FedEx the website.

https://www.pilotcredentials.com/careers/index.php?a=qualifications

Qualifications

Typical qualifications for consideration as a FedEx pilot.

  • Commercial Pilot Certificate with Multi-engine and Instrument rating (without limitations)
  • Current ATP Certificate or written
  • Current FE Turbojet Rating or written (FEX or Basic/turbojet)
  • Must pass FAA mandated drug screen
  • Recency and type of experience is considered
  • Meet requirements for and currently hold First Class Medical certification
  • College Degree from an accredited college or university
  • Eligibility for rapid visa issuance, issued by offices in the United States to fly to any FedEx destination.
  • Ability to obtain clearance from United States Postal Service for handling or access to U.S. mail, which includes FBI fingerprint check, and candidate must have resided in the United States for the last five consecutive years (except for U.S. military assignments)
  • Eligibility for issuance of US Security Clearance
  • 1500 hours total fixed-wing time as pilot-in-command (PIC) or second-in-command in multi-engine turbo-prop A/C or jet A/C or combination thereof, including a minimum of 1000 hours total fixed-wing pilot-in-command in multi-engine turbo prop A/C or jet A/C or combination thereof.
Note: PIC for this purpose is defined as Captain/Aircraft Commander of record, not simply the sole manipulator of the controls.
Note: FedEx considers only pilot time in fixed wing aircraft toward minimum qualifications. This does not include simulator, helicopter, flight engineer, bombardier, navigator, RIO, EWO, WSO, NFO, or Special Crew.
  • All certificates and ratings required to be U.S.A. FAA issued
You can join the military and get 1000 hrs PIC multi-engine turbine time, or you can do it at the regional airlines. I think the military may take longer to get the time, I'm not sure. I can only speak for the regionals.

It will depend on the airline how fast the upgrade time is to get PIC turbine time. Some airlines take 6-12 months to upgrade, some take several years. Once you get to be a captain, you can fly between 70-90 hrs a month easy.

I know of several civilian only pilots at FedEx, and some in the pool awaiting class dates, myself included.

If you already work for FedEx, I believe you are guaranteed an interview, once you meet the requirements above. Right now getting the interview is the toughest part to getting a job at FedEx. This is where it helps to know people, to get your foot in the door. With the internal application, you already have this problem solved.

Feel free to ask any questions. Good luck!

If that's really your attitude and your being happy with flying as a career only depends upon getting to FedEx, I would say not.

I'm not saying that you shouldn't aim high or that you have no chance at getting on, but if you don't enjoy the ride and can't see yourself being happy flying for someone else, you'll probably be in for a long, bitter, and disappointing career.

sorry, didnt mean to come across with a lax attitude, I am very passionate about flying for them, just trying to figure out which path to take, cargo or corporate with Fedex.

Eatsleep had some good advice, if only FedEx will make you happy, you have a high probability of being disappointed. This disappointment could come after many years of building your credentials to be competitive at FedEx. Only fly because you like to.

Could you please list your source for this statistic? It doesn't seem very credible to me.

Just looking back at the history of this industry, the best place to work now, probably won't be the best in 5-10 years. Things change quickly and dramatically. Ask anyone hired at UAL, DAL, AA, etc in 1999, 2000, 2001...

dude..set some goals..short and long term and go for it...it is worth it...connections will help you immensly..if you are a manager then you have an in already...keep flying and good luck!

Continue to stay focused on the goal of flying for FedEx. The job is definately worth the wait.
I have been flying the line for approximately 2 years, but have worked for the company for more than 20 years. The path I chose was not an easy one, but I chose not to listen to all the NAY SAYERS who said I would never achieve my goal. I chose not to listen to all the negative comments related to my pursuits. However; I will say that dealing with these did build character.

My best advice for you is to stay focused on the goal, adopt a 'can-do' attitude, and do your best to not let the negative comments get you down.
Also; continue to stay in touch with Mr. Logue, he can be very helpful in your career pusuits at FedEx.

A doctorate in nuclear or astro physics, 27000 hours,
26ooo of them in wide body aircraft and a lunar landing
would be a good start...they might be looking at Space
Shuttle pilots now too...

hehehe, seriously, good luck. I remember the good
old days when people went to UPS and FedEx
because SWA, UAL, Delta, AA or where ever they
really wanted to go wouldn't hire them.

Makes it tough on the guys that always wanted to
be freight dogs in the first place. Really, good luck.
I hope you get it.
