Seriously, We central Texans pick on west Texas, but don't none of you furaners dare call any a our fellow Texans names. We Texans have to pick on each other to keep ourselves humble. Our superiority over the rest of ya'll naturally leads to a good ol fashioned case of the big head, and knowing that the big head is a bad thing, we have to pick on each other in order to maintain a modicum of humility. I just wish I could explain Natalie Maines. I can only say that she came from the high plains but claims Austin as home and we all know that Austin is a country all to itself. Most of us try and overlook the Austin attitude because the BBQ is so good there, and the music. Who said something about ADD pilots? See, I knew where I was going, Music. If a musician played at Threadgills, the Broken Spoke, or the Oasis, I'll listen to em.


Do ya know why Texas doesn't slide off into the gulf? Because Oklahoma $ucks!!!! just a joke, just a joke. Oklahoma is the second best state in the union. Except in football season, when they rank only one place above Arkansas..

Lubbock / Amarillo: I believe the greatest restriction to visibility are oil derricks and tumble weeds. Normal visibility in the air is about unrestricted.
Some college student there explained me the nightlife opportunities in LBB: cowboy bar, cowboy bar, cowboy bar, McDonalds, cowboy bar...... (poor girl came from the caraibian).

Or the interchangeable, can't distinguish one from the other because they too, are all the same, "hair bands"., i.e., Dokken, Cinderella, Motley Crue, Rio, Poison, Ratt, etc, etc, ad nauseum. The absolute bottom of the rock -n- roll music genre from its beginning to its current state,

Of course, this is only my opinion, but it's the opinion of an extremely passionate and ecclectic rock music fanatic since the very beginning of rock-n-roll. If you want to see what I'm listening to now, scroll up a bit and find my post, and you'll see I'm not some burn out stuck in the 50s. 60s or 70s.

Screw the techno. I was talking about the 80's rock. It has been the influence of some great bands. I mean come on, look at “The Cure.” They rocked harder than probably at least half the garbage bands that you hear on radio and TV. And what about the Ramon’s? I don't agree with what they represent but they were the leaders for the down-to-earth rock sounds that some of today's great bands have evolved into.

And no offense or anything, but isn't Dashboard a chick band? I know it is a guy who sings but it reminds me of a NSYNC (sp) with a guitar. (No offense Matt.) He (Chris Carabba) should have kept that hardcore edge he had going for him when he was still in Further Seems Forever. All in IMHO!

and, um, Rush.

Yeah. That about sums it up.

Right now I really like Coldplay, Moby and that last Johnny Cash CD, American IV: The man comes around. AWESOME!

Travis is cool too.

I'm also developing an appreciation for ambient and Italian folk music (and even opera--with subtitles).

I have learned not to "label" or pigeonhole any band or music. That's just an indication of a closed mind. However, I'm not here to debate the merits of any one band, but to express my opinion of the 80s in general, which I still contend produced overall some of the weakest music in the history of rock. There might be one or two exceptions, as there are to any rule, but this one holds true, IMO.

BTW, I listen to Dashboard Confessional for the guitar work, which in many cases, is excellent. I could really care less if Chris Carabba reminds you of NSYNC with a guitar. Try listening to the guitar sometime.

But, like I said....music is a very personal issue, and what moves one person may do nothing for another. I am simply expressing my opinion.

Yes Rush is/was another good example. Thanx Mar! I agree it is a short list of great 80’s bands, but the era is fun to watch; especially on VH1! People were so cheesy back then ! As far as Radio and MTV, yeah they are both garbage. Spoonfed is the right word! There are so many more talented bands/artists than what you see on MTV.

And you are absolutely right. I respect your opinion and want to apologize for what I said about Dashboard. I made that comment because I guess I felt like being a smart@--. But I know what you are saying and agree that the guitar work is very talented, I just think he (Chris) was more cut out to fit a band like FSF. It all worked out for the better anyway though, because it got FSF the new singer they now have (Jason). He (Jason) is the most talented performer/songwriter/artist I have ever experienced. And Chris is able to do what he has more of a passion towards--writing songs for 16 year old girls. Just kidding!!!!

Seriously though I love music. It is one of the coolest things about life. And it wouldn't be the same without the diversity of musical preferences.
