This is to all of you fractional pilots out there. I know you pack a suitcase--some stick to the "carry-on" size, and others I have been told bump up to a bigger suitcase and seem to get away with it (without checking it in).
But what about your second, smaller carry-on bag??? How big/small is it? Do any of you have any problems with airlines out there telling you that you need to check at least one of your bags in, or are they pretty good about it? Would like to get a good idea of what I can get away with.
Coming home from last rotation, I stayed in uniform to get my liquids through security. I gave a wave to the guy on the monitor so he saw I was flight crew. His response as the bag went through, "You know, I think flight crews have a one bottle limit." (I had a red and a white from the leftovers!)
Tried the same thing at HPN - had to go back and check the bag.
Does anyone else use these packing cubes? I bought these a while ago and they work great. I'm amazed how much stuff you can fit into them and highly recommend them.
I just bought the 26" PNS bag and the laptop bag from Luggage Works (the one they sell at Charlie's locker). I guess we'll see when I start IOE next week if the 26 incher will "fly" or not.
I don't use the cubes but I do use a large compression bag for most of my clean clothes. Works very well and frees up more space for the bottles of wine. As an added bonus when the bags are sealed they are effectively waterproof.
How many uses do you get out of 1 bag? I've heard some people say they only get 5 or so uses from a space saver bag before they develop a hole.
And good luck with IOE.
