How cool is that? I am going to St Maarten in October, I will have to try that. Does anyone know how far from this beach the cruise lines park?

Exactly what I was wondering... Anyone that has been there... Do you know how to get from the crusise boat docks to the beach?

Thanks

It is quite a distance, you will need to take a taxi. Every taxi driver knows where the Sun Set Beach Bar is, so that will not be a problem.

One note of warning, traffic can be very heavy on the Island from the airport to the cruise line docks and there is a drawbridge on the road from the airport to the dock. So allow plenty of time to return to your cruise ship.

By the way, unless it has changed the Sun Set Beach Bar does not serve Carib Beer, so don't ask for it, or you'll get a dirty look. They do have Bud, Bud Light, Heineken etc. The bar takes US money, the whole island does.

Also, unless it has changed in the last few months the bar does not take any type of credit card, cash only!

Oh, don't forget to take your camera.

Have a great time.

Not every taxi driver knows, I've been there, and I got the one guy who didn't know! :D Probably was new to the Island.

i was sittin behind the mavs 757 at landmark at kdal and it blew me back as it started taxiing.

mmmmm kerosene

If a big jet engine is strong enough to pick a guy up off his feet and suck him in, its sure strong enough to blow few folks over.

But Im not really sure, I just fly the small noisy ones...

Down in MBJ, there used to be groups of kids that would stand in the approach light area on the sea wall behind the airport fence to get a little "blow job" from the 727.

Last time Concorde was up at Osh Kosh I watched it destroy about 300 yards of the tent village at the end of the runway with its wake screaming in to land. While sadly there is no video it is etched in my memory for all of eternity as the coolest thing I have ever seen.

Is there much else to do in St. Maarten other than watch airplanes all day?

Nope, just like all of the Islands of the Caribbean there is nothing to do but sit in your hotel room and watch TV, which only has BBC and CNN International.

Well, other than every water sport known to mankind, scuba diving, excellent dinning, great night life, fishing, sailing, day trips to neighboring islands such as St. Barts, etc.

If your question is serious go to www.sunsetbeach.com website. They also have a section on things to do while in St. Maarten / St. Martin. The north half of the island is French and is spell St. Martin, the southern half is Dutch and spelled St. Maarten.

Try watching the babes who are watching the airplanes :pimp:

One time we had 3 bikini hotties watching us depart in a 757, one didn't have top and was swaying magnificently.

Good thing nothing happened on T.O. The CVR would have recorded the sounds of the FO opening his window and yelling "Girls" followed by both pilots chanting "boo-bies, boo-bies, boo-bies" through FL180+

Yeah, I stood on the beach one night behind a 757. It pushed us down the beach, but not into the water. The sand blast was incredible. When it was taxing out my friend held up his liquor bottle and he turned to shine the landing light on us. BTW, the sunset bar lets topless girls drink for free ...and they do!

You don't happen to own the bar by any chance?

Sorry all, last website address I gave for the Sunset Beach Bar is incorrect.

It should be www.sunsetbeachbar.com I left the bar off.

(Rather silly really, leaving the bar off of a bar.)

Sorry.
