Probably one of the worst places to do a bad landing...you know some airliners.net guy is always going to be there.

Also glad :( to see they posted all the info on the company with names! Sometimes databases are a BAD thing!

FYI and for the mods on the board I put Canoe then changed it to Westwind (as not to offend anyone) however it didn't change in the title.

I like these quotes:

"Aircraft is on a Part 135 Certifcate...hmmmm (and is for sale)
we should all write them and tell them that pilot needs a refresher class in Landing Zone identification."

"Don't they have VASI/PAPIs at SXM?"

"In the picture, his AOA looks extremely high"

"If he landed on the thresh hold, that's illegal isn't it? Possible liscence revocation?"

For what it's worth the picture really looks worse than it is. There's an overrun on the end and then a fence and then some distance (not much) to the road. The people that hang on the fence get your attention way more than the cars. These dummies get up there behind a 747 on T/O and hang on to the fence while the blast picks them up. Don't even wear eye protection. :)

Wow,

Either he carried in a lot of power or that landing left a lot to be desired..... I've been down to sxm and sat at http://www.sunsetbeachbar.com/ and watched plenty of planes come in... that looks a tad bit low. Cool place to hang out and have a couple cold ones....BTW Ladies get a pretty good deal there.....

Yes, they do.. I was there 2 weeks ago for the first. Magical island. I know exactly what happened with those pilots. When I was there there were young, hot topless girls on the beach (along with others). Who wouldn't accidently have the wrong aim point?

As stupid as it may have been, I find it irritating that some of these airliners.net geniouses get on their message board and encourage people who have seen nothing more than a picture on an internet site to write in and get the pilots in trouble. If the guy who took the picture felt it was that dangerous of a situation, let him do something about it. I started to post a message saying this on their forums, but it costs $25 to use them. Give me a break.

I've seen more garbage on that airliners.net forum than anywhere else on the net. Most of those nimrods are nothing more than wannabe losers with absolutely no clue about aviation. Their motto should be "so many experts, so little knowledge".

Part 135? So what? He was landing at an approved airport, and being 135 certified myself, I know that they WOULD NOT fly to SXM if their Operations Specifications did not allow such operations (Caribbean islands)

Second, yes there is a visual slope indicator (I forget if it's a 4-light PAPI or VASI)

Third, I can tell you as first hand experience as a Westwind pilot, with hundreds of hours flying the thing, that his AOA is most appropriate for the aircraft at Vref to Vref +10.

Fourth, landing on a runway Landing Threshold is NOT illegal. Landing on a a displaced threshold is technically against US/ICAO Air Regs and the US AIM, in general if it is not a gross error, most people ignore a landing on the displaced threshold.

I can tell you I agree with the thought they were a little too low for the situation. Do I think they should be punished? No. Do I think it wise to "tatle tale" to their boss? Maybe so long as you understand what you are talking about, and have a sincere interest in the safety of yourself, beach goers, motorists and the crew and passengers.

I believe they made a mistake, possibly came in low on purpose to showboat, and luckily did not bend any metal or injure anybody with their stunt.
Next time an accident with this crew may occur, hopefully that will never happen, but......

A.
