My head is hanging.
They ordered 6 736's to be delivered in 2005 & 2006. They did leave a caveat on the table and said they would take look at the 190 again in 2006, as they still need a pure 100 seater. The 736 will be used to replace the 732's in their fleet, and will seat 118 pax.
I still find it inconceivable that the 736 could ever become a major competitor to the 190. The trip costs are double, and the crew costs would be too high. How do you ask a CA to take $72. per hour in lieu of a 737NG CA at double that rate? It could be done, but exclusive flying within the pilot group would not be as economical.
I see DL ordering the 736 before the 717 due it's ability to make the turn to the west coast. We'll just have to see what happens.
